Shoots in the 80s Model Reviewed: Callaway Steelhead III 11deg Driver Summary: Being 6'4" and quite athletic, I thought golf would be easy when I took it up last year. How wrong could I be....
So, introducing myself, the high handicap golfer that has a swing which is somewhat reminiscent of a giraffe riding a fairground big wheel.
After a couple of rounds, thought I might treat myself to some new gear from the hand me downs I started with.
So off I went with a wheelbarrow full of cash, in search of golf equipment nirvana.
So....several hours later, having parted with quite a few hundred quid,I was eying my shiny spangly, technology packed large headed driver, eager to show the world that I was capable of big distance with the big dog.
The reality? Ok, so I can hit it 270 yds. Sounds good doesn't it? No good though if its 100 yards into thick undergrowth and trees, particularly in a country such as Australia where things that bite live. So yes, I've learnt that distance is not neccesarily the issue.
Enter my new £20 Callaway Steelhead III driver, purchased from my local shop's "bargain bucket" section:-
WOW! Feels better at address, more control over the clubhead during the swing, and that lovely "ting" off the face. It feels so much more solid too than all the large headed drivers that I've ever hit.
Have lost distance (about 40 yards), but the ball goes where I want it to, with a lovely flight. Have changed from a hideous uncontrollable fade to a controllable straight/slight fade, and, with a slight grip change and slight open stance, a draw. Hitting more fairways than I used to, no, change that to I'm actually hitting the fairway, which actually promotes a better scorecard and a much more enjoyable game.
I'm definately a much better player for using this club, and would highly recommend it to anyone brave enough to lose the ego and try something different. It certainly has helped me with my inconsistencies with my driving, my insecurities and intrepidation, that if we're honest, a lot of us high handicappers have.
Thank you Eli Callaway you are a true gentleman, and you have certainly saved me a few quid to boot. May you inherit the earth! Customer Service: Can it get any better than Callaway?

Shoots in the 80s Model Reviewed: Callaway Steelhead III 9* Uniflex Steel Summary: I have been playing a Taylormade 360 Ti for 3 years now. Because of the longer graphite shaft and ligher club head, my shots are hit or miss. The control is not there because at any given time in the swing, with these giant (and this isn't even the largest out there) titanium drivers, it's very hard to tell where the head is.
I read a lot of reviews from the site on steel drivers and steel shafts and had to try for myself. Bought a Callaway Steelhead III 9* with the steel uniflex shaft and WOW what a difference. My Taylormade had 9.5* of loft and the only Callaway I could find was a 9*. Wasn't sure if it would spin too much, but after hitting, it wasn't even an issue.
All I can say is that I took both to the range and it's like night and day. The Taylormade was very inconsistent (and I have a very consistent swing). So my feeling is that the club just never had the right shaft in it for me. When I do connect with the Taylormade, I can hit to 300 straight down the middle.
In my opinion, the Callaway just has more control (via the shorter steel shaft and heavier head). Also, at address, the club makes you feel very comfortable on the tee box. Being only 255cc, I never have to worry about whether or not the ball is teed up high enough. I did lose about 15 to 20 yards, but I am in the fairway off of every tee. Can't even begin to describe that feeling and the confidence that comes along with knowing that!
This club is amazing and every good thing that you've read about it off of this site is absolutely true. If you feel like you can't swing today's Giant Drivers, you really should try this club. However, if you're comfortable with your current driver's club head but feel that the problem is that everything feels too light, try reshafting with steel. You may lose a little distance, but I personally would rather be 270 in the fairway, than 300 in the woods. Customer Service: Have not had to use them yet, but only heard good things from those who have.

Shoots in the 90s Model Reviewed: callaway steelhead 3, 11* driver reg graphite Summary: I have seen similar reviews on here and thought it about time to add one of my own. Im a 'big hitter' but have always sufferred with consistency(sound familiar?) Have been using a taylor made 860 burner, on its day(or should that be mine!!) have hit 361yds(measured) and reckonned tiger need to watch his back, unfortunately, the next round havent hit a single fairway. So, rooted round my garage and found the callaway that Id bought off ebay(about £50)and decided to give it a try at the range against the taylormade...result--whilst the TM was generally longer, the callaway hit the 'fairway' every shot-- I was impressed!! Yesterday, took it out on a round, my golf buddy couldnt believe it--hit every fairway, shortest was 260yds+ longest 325yds(measured),scorecard dropped 5 shots!! The only thing I noticed was slight fade on every shot, have read on here that this could be the shaft stiffness so have just ordered a 9* with firm flex graphite shaft(will review after next round). Im obviously not a great golfer, but if you want to improve your handicap--go for accuracy everytime and this great club from callaway does it in bucket fulls, it even feels more natural when you're teeing up. Customer Service: never used Similar Products Used: taylor made 860 burner

Shoots in the 80s Model Reviewed: Callaway SteelHead III 9.5 Degree Summary: Ever since I bought this driver ($69.99 new on Ebay) my driving game has gone up a few levels! I really love this club. I've always preferred smaller headed drivers, so this club fits my game to a T. It does take a bit of practice to get the most out of this driver, because of the smaller sweet-spot. But once you master it, WOW! You will be amazed how far and straight it hits. And the sound it makes on a solid hit can only be described as an explosion. At the driving range you will have people down the line glancing over at you constantly to check out who is blowing up those balls. It used to hit 220-235 on my drives, now with this club I hit 250-280. And I almost always find the fairway off the tee now. Some other pluses are the looks of the club and it's quality build. This club will look great in your bag. Highly recommended (so long as you take the time to practice with it)!! Customer Service: Callaway has always had good customer service. Shoots in the 90s Model Reviewed: Cally Steelhead 3 Summary: after hitting with this driver i had to write a review. this club is just plain awsome it is the best smallhead driver i have ever hit with. the sound it produces is just crazy. the performance is very good, most of my solid hits end up 260+ while off shots end up around 220 but still remain perfectly in the center. the control is insane, a fade or draw is relativly easy to do, and centering it in the fairway is just way to easy. one minor thing i had to get used to was the weight of the head. it is a little on the heavy side but i think that aids in its extreme forgiveness. (make sure to search ebay, i found this club sealed in plastic w/ headcover included, for a mere $20) Customer Service: N/A Similar Products Used: Callaway BB 454, Ping G5, Bridges Igniter 400, Taylormade R5 and R7
