Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R7 Quad
Summary: Old reliable. Bought brand new a few years ago. Will buy something new every few months, and end up going back to this beauty. Reasons I keep going back? Shaft/head combo are perfect. Head size is perfect, not like these monster 460's. And the key for me is the 7.5 loft since I am not very adept @ bending a hosel. I rarely miss a fairway and in optimal conditions can get well over 300 yards. Hit one 325 today on a flat fairway. I will keep this in the bag until it breaks

Summary: Well, I think my problems are in the past hitting off a tee. I found this barely used - like new in a store for 80 bucks! haha, I was like, what could go wrong I'll come get another one next week if I don't like it.
So I took this puppy out the first weekend after buying it used with a 9.5 loft (lower then the 10.5 I set out to buy) and a stiff ys-6 shaft - I now know the difference between shafts:The club head is where I want it when I want it there, and when this quad ends up where you want it, KA- BOOM, the sucker flys. I had a very long drives all day. I leave the weights at neutral with the 10's in the back and the 2's on the sides - a slow backswing and a 97 mph forward swing sticking my belt buckle toward the target. Not a better feeling in the world. I'm addicted.

Summary: I can't believe how nice this driver hits. Added another 20 to 30 meters on my drives. The movable weights help a little but the shaft is the key. Bought mine as a 2nd hand driver with an Aldila NV 75 s shaft and hits great. I've never been confident with the driver but this one gives me a lot of confidence when teeing off.

Summary: Amazing i bought the club used this afternoon went straight to the driving range and could not believe the immediate result. 50-60yds better and down the middle i usually have to aim at the nets to the left on the driving range to get the ball to land in the middle with my hellish slice NOT NO MORE!!! I can't wait to wax my friends on Saturday. Awesome Club Thank you Taylor Made

Summary: I purchased this driver within the first few months it was out. A launch monitor fitting and shaft fitting session were completed and I couldn't wait for spring. Right out of the box I was satisfied. The moveable weights worked to a degree and the driver was quite accurate. However as my handicap dropped and my swing speed increased I found it to be lacking. Another shaft fitting session and the stock shaft was swapped for a Graphite Designs YS-6+. What a difference. Lower ballflight, better carry and more stable through impact. Now 3 years later, I recently did more launch monitor testing compared to some of the newer drivers and had some interesting results.
For its time, the R7 Quad was revolutionary and marked Taylormade as a market leader. Their MWT has trickled into all their products but is not all it is hyped up to be. I had my weights set at neutral, always. I had changed the weight settings but did not like the feel and found the results minimal. The driver itself has been a good performer but the stock shaft lacks and some will feel the need to upgrade (as I did). Off centre hits are muted and distance loss is average. The driver head is heavier compared to more modern 460cc heads and may not appeal to some golfers. The stock shaft produces and high floating ballflight with minimal roll. Windy conditions affect ballflight considerably. The YS-6+ addressed a more piercing mid-trajectory and more roll which added yards and accuracy. Consistency and shot pattern is average with other drivers (Sasquatch, G5, FSpeed, Burner) showing better results and more stability through impact. I have gained 10 yards with my new driver/shaft and consistency is better but technology has also passed the R7 design. I'm probably more disappointed with myself for spending the cash when they came out but that is my own impulsiveness.
For its time the R7 was a good driver but its price was unreal. Someone looking for one, cheap, may benefit from used dealers but there are others that should be considered within this price range (ie Cobra SZ, Cleveland Launcher series). Overall, another good product from Taylormade, but not as earth shattering as the marketing made it out to be.
Customer Service: Not used.
Similar Products Used: Everything, I spend too much time in golf stores.
