Shoots in the 80s Model Reviewed: Ram Fx Tour Grind Custom Nickel Summary: I bought these clubs probably 4-5 years ago on ebay based on the reviews at this site. I always had trouble hitting them straight (always a flare to the right) and then I got my swing checked for lie angle. Turns out the Ram irons were 2 degrees flat and the Ping ISI's I bought after my time on the lie board were 3 degrees upright.
Anyway, I nearly sold them as is back on ebay but a best offer was reneged upon. Wow, I have never been so grateful that happened as I am today. Since they didn't sell, I eventually had them bent to my lie specs and noticed a great improvement in direction. However, since they were to be a backup set, I never really used them... I have been thru Ping ISI's, Armour V-25's, Mizuno Pro's, Mizuno MP-37's, MacTec Forged and currently use Wishon 550 combo's. All of the forged irons are great clubs. Therefore, the Rams stayed in the closet mostly.
The other day I packed up my main set and sent them down to my vacation destination so I had to get out a backup set. Well, I don't know if I am just swinging better but the lie adjustment and improvement to my swing has made a true believer out of me. The rams are worthy and should be mentioned in the same sentence as the best forged irons. They are not forged, but the Nickel makes them feel as good as most forged irons and better than quite a few forged sets. They seem to impart more distance than quite a few sets I have hit as well, although I didn't check lofts, etc.
I have been pounding these Nickel Rams so well, I may not go back to my main set. The longer irons are graphite and although I don't hit it like the "Bugman" from the previous review, I was hitting a 4 iron high and long again for the first time in years. I am soon to be 55, and hitting high 185-195 yard 4 irons was a distant memory and never a consistent memory, although it happens that my only legit hole in one came with a 4 iron (Tommy Armour V-25). I just came in from the range and I was hitting 4, 6, 7, 9 and wedges flush central. I added a Ram Tom Watson Troon '82 Nickel wedge to the mix and was puring that as well. It is a shame these clubs are not made anymore.
Look for a set of these on ebay if you can find them....mine won't be available anytime soon....maybe when I hit 70!! Customer Service: None needed.

Shoots in the 70s Model Reviewed: RAM FX Pro Set, factory graphite regular flex (80-90 mph swing speed), 2 iron - sw Summary: Just got these irons today and they are INCREDIBLE!!!! I'm a 3 handicap and been playing a set of Ping Eye 2 irons for 15 years. I've had numerous sets of irons but always went back to the Pings....not anymore. These are the longest and straightest irons I've ever hit. The regular flex graphite shafts are incredible. I take my normal swing and do not have to fight the hook like I did with the offset pings. The long irons are actually larger than I expected, and the short irons are small and precise. I average 1 club more on short irons, 2 clubs more on mid irons, and 3+ clubs more on the long irons. I hit the 2 iron off the tee the same distance as my 3 wood (250 yards). I may never hit a wood again. I picked this set up off of eBay for $90....the best investment in my 16 years of playing golf. I was looking for a set of irons to shave the next several stroke off of my handicap.....I think I have found them. These were made in the mid 90s and the original RAM company went out of business and the name was sold to Tommy Armour. What a shame. If you ever have the chance to get your hands on a set of these irons, for the love of Pete do so. Don't be afraid of regular flex shafts or graphite. I swing hard and this year switched to regular flex and picked up 10% in distance without sacrificing accuracy. If I don't pay attention to my grip with the driver (left hand strong causes me to snap hook bad) it causes problems. Just be smooth and pause at the top of the backswing and the regular flex will provide significant gains. Customer Service: NA Similar Products Used: Ping Eye 2+ (1990 models)used 15 years
MacGreggor Tourney PCB (forged cavity back 2002 models)used less than 1 year
MacGreggor Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear (forged blades, 60s models)used 1 month
RAM Senator (first set of irons, cast stainless cavity back....model year unknown)used 2 years

Shoots in the 90s Model Reviewed: Ram Tour Grind TG-802 Summary: I'm a range rat constantly trying different irons. These were an experiment at the low end of the forged club price range and I can see that club prices will probably continue to go down. These clubs compare favourably to my old Hogan edges and my new Snake eyes 600c's. Ram seems to be disappearing from the market and these can be picked up very cheaply. The grips are excellent and the Apollo stepless shafts look like Rifle shafts. Off center hits are not in the supergame improvement category but are manageable. The available lob and sand wedges - are cast stainless and are excellent as well. Customer Service: I tried to email Tommy Armour for more information but did not get a response. I don't think they are paying attention. Similar Products Used: Snake Eyes 600c, Ben Hogan Edge, Adams GT Ultimate, Tommy Armour Vault 845,Topflite Tour.

Scratch Golfer Model Reviewed: Ram Tour Grinds TW 282 Summary: I play alot of tournament golf here on the west coast and I find these clubs by far the best blades i've ever hit. First off, they have an extremly small head which makes you swing properly. EXCELLENT TRAJECTORY..I have rifle 6.5 shafts. which helps me to launch a little higher flight. Immediate feedback, if you miss it, you know it. If you run across these clubs and you play serious golf, give them a try. Customer Service: excellent..too bad they're not around any more. I have played with about 6 sets until I bought these. Great feel with the ability to control the ball describes them best. Plus, paying $100 on ebay does not hurt. Buy them if you can find them.
