Description From Ben Hogan Co:
"...the 1998 Apex Iron combines some of the best features of the '88 and '94 Apex models. The result is the feel and performance you would expect from a forged blade, incorporated ...
Review Abstract "Cosmetically these clubs are absolutely beautiful with flawless workmanship throughout the entire set." The Ben Hogan Apex is an "outstanding set of forged irons." Amazingly pure, soft yet solid feel at impact. Many players report vast improvement in their iron play with these clubs. Reported as "a little bit pricy, but worth every penny." "This is what the best club in golf feels like. This is the best iron out there."
Summary: My golf coach taped up several different clubs covering up the entire club except for the face.
I had just come off a back injury I had just started to get serious about playing golf competitively.
Out of the 3 Clubs I had been hitting, one seemed more accurate, had a nice weighted feel to it that hit effortlessly over and around the pine.
When he took the tape off, I discovered that I was hitting a Hogan Apex Blade! I could not believe it.
Ever since then, I have described the Hogan Apex Blade as a fine tuned instrument that looks like it means business.
If you try to force a shot and put a lot of muscle into the club, you will be in for a long day with a lot of strokes.
However, if you let the weight of the club fall into the slot, the ball will effortlessly compress on the clubface rewarding you with control of the flight of the ball and the ability to spin when on a receptive green.
I disagree with many people who say that off center hits are disasterous. Acutally, since the club is so heavy, the weight of the club seems to carry the missed hits closed to the target than my playing companions.
So, if my putting is on, I am in contention more than my partners.

Summary: I just traded my MP-37's for these clubs. These clubs are the heaviest blades i have ever seen (nike is the lightest). Right away you get a sence of quality. The hogan blades are very predictable. It seems like every club has a standard trajectory and distance to it. but there is still a lot of room for working the ball withing those parameters of each club. Compared to the Mizunos, there is no feel at all. When u hit the sweet spot, you literaly don't feel the ball coming off the clubface. At first i thought that was not good but now i think its much better because the sensation is that the club is doing the work. Now i am much more consistent. With my mizunos, a fade could move 5-20 feet in the air, but with the hogan blades my fade moves 5-10 feet at most. Overall i have to say that if you are looking for complete control of the ball then mizunos or nike blades would be better, but if you are looking for consistency then these are the clubs for the job. Also i have seen reviews with negative comments about the shafts...well the shafts do feel a bit softer but i think thats becuase of trajectory specs. In my opinion the shafts are much better than standard. I still have not gotten over my mizunos, but i am very happy with these clubs and i can already see my scores improving. Hope this helps.
