Summary: in fairness to cobra here's the update. it took a little over a month and i have finally rec'd a club from cobra to replace the broken 290 ss. it was replaced with a 454 comp. After a few rounds, I'll write a review on the 454 comp.

Summary: contrary to other reviews on this club, I would not walk away from it, but run away. The first six balls I hit with this club were very long and straight, the seventh was a different story. The club made a strange sound, and after a quick inspection, the club had a cracked face. Within eight days I had a brand new club in hand - cheers for cobra customer service, this time. On the fifth hole of the second round using the new cobra, same thing, cracked the face. So far, it has been 29 days and I'm still waiting for another replacement.
Customer Service: See above, mixed results

Summary: this is absolutely the best driver i have ever hit, and ive hit a bunch of them. sound of club takes a little getting used to, but can overlook it since ball goes straighter than any driver i have ever hit. personally i dont like the larger headed driver, seem to have trouble sqaring the face consistenly. regular flex stock shaft seems to be a great fit for me. this might be one of the best keep secrets out there. would highly recommend to any level of player.
Summary: After 1 round of play I have a good vibe about this driver. Used it at the range and then on 3 or 4 holes the following day. I've heard complaints about the sound, actually I kind of liked the sound. Makes a "shquack!" sound. Immediately you can tell where on the club face you hit the ball. The sweet spot is as advertised. That's why I really like it and the shaft fits my swing well. I hover around 100-105 with sometimes fast tempo. At 9 degrees the ball has a penetrating ball flight but gets up higher than I imagined it would. My other drivers are 10 and 12 degrees. Distance is not as long as my other 2 drivers which I average between 250 and 260. With the SS 290 the distance was around 10 yards shorter. When comfort factor sets in I think I should be able hit it as far and more importantly in the fairway. This driver does not stray too far from the fairway. It's a very managable club. If you want to smash it with total abandon this is not the club. Don't get me wrong, distance is good. It's just that I'm not a long ball hitter. If you want to play in the fairway I'd highly recommend this club.
