Summary:
Like the previous reviewer, I'm not usually a review writer kinda guy, but this club's performance is worth sharing. In the east (ie Japan), the XR-05 line appears to be quite popular - they have a range of drivers, irons - even XR-05 putters but what we're reviewing today is the CTi driver.

For my game, the 10.5 degree, reg flex was perfect. Long, penetrating flight with accurate results - workability is minimal but this is a game improvement club. I think the face is also slightly closed 1-2deg for all those natural slicers out there.

Some might also be concerned with the sound but I've found it to be quite dull like most composite drivers and quite a nice change from my usual Callaway GBB ERC II which packs a punch on the ears. Sound of this club really is down to personal preference though.

Looks wise, is a little different especially on the crown. Most clubs I've seen keep it traditional up top, but this one has a very distinctive, indented ring where carbon meets titanium. Also while on the carbon, I would have liked to have seen more weave - instead it's like my Mizuno MP-001 and just fades towards the edges (quickly)

To close, great club living in the shadows of it's brothers, the R5 and R7. Personally at my level, workability and fancy weights on the heel and toe have no priority over simple, straight distance.

For those out there willing to change their 'soundtrack' from a nice 'ting' to more of a thumping 'thud' - this could be for you.

Summary:
First of all I wouldn't normally sit down and write a review on any product but this driver has changed my mind. I have the 8.5* model with the stock stiff shaft. This is without doubt the longest club on the market. I dont feel the need to boast about how far I hit the ball but driving has always been a strong part of my game.

Until recently I had a Biggest Big Bertha 9* driver with the stock firm shaft. Originally I was very satisfied with that club untill I noticed that guys I normally hit the ball past were starting to hit it past me with their new drivers. I decided that it was time to invest in some new technology.

A friend of mine lent me his TM R580 which was an 8.5* with a stiff flex Mitsubishi Rayon Shaft. This was a great club and certainly increased my distance by about 20 yards on average from the Calloway, but I was not happy with the trajectory I was getting. Ball flight was a little too low, which I discovered was due to the very low torque shaft. After falling in love with the extra distance I decided to demo the XR-05 CTi.

The 1st thing I noticed about the club was how massive the clubhead is (460CC), which filled me full of confidence. The club is extremely forgiving and can be hit all over the face with acceptable results. However when you do crack it out of the middle this is the logest club I have ever experienced, its like the ball is never going to come down. I'm now way past all my friends again. While it is a little harder to draw and fade this club it is not impossible and through practice I can now hit a powerful draw. The trajectory from the stock shaft is perfect, takes of like a rocket with a high but penetrating flight, and has plenty of roll when it lands. Another thing I love is how light this club is especially if you consider the size of the clubhead.

I know this revies is long so to wrap up all I can say is, if you want the longest, most forgiving, most fun to use driver out there, get out and buy the XR-05 CTi.
