Callaway X-18

Summary:
Just got a second hand set on ebay for a bargain price. Regular graphite shafts suit me fine and the forgiveness is awesome. I used to play a lot, and thought it'd be cool to buy some blades (when I was 16)... I've started playing again after almost 10 years and find the blades very tricky (they're also 3/4" too short!). Tried out a few modern cavity-backs at the local shop & fell in love with the X-18's. After a couple of visits to the driving range with my new toys - I'm sure I'll be able to lower my average score by 5-8 strokes. They're very straight and forgiving, perfect for mid-high handicappers, and they look great too. Many thanks to the previous reviewers.

Tried Mizuno, Cleveland & Srixon (latest cavity back models), but the X-18's were the only ones for me.

Summary:
I am a club "junkie" and have tried many irons...X-18's are the best I've ever hit. They are very forgiving and feel like butter when you hit it.These irons have very clean lines and do not look like a bulky g.i.c.(game improvement club)but they do help the average golfer lower scores, build confidence, and have fun while playing a true gentlemen's game!

Customer Service:
One of the best in golf(will have to give a "nod" to Cleveland as well, both are excellent!)

callaway x-18 with uniflex shaft

Summary:
Everyone knows about the callaway x series so I thought it would be interesting to compare a set of blades I purchased and played for the past two months versus the callaways that I have been playing with for the past two years. Here goes.

A well struck blade feeling better than the x-18 is very true. When you pure a 3 iron blade there is no better feeling.

You will feel and know where you hit on the face with a blade much better than with the x-18. That is true as well. Unfortunately there were rounds with the blades that I might have only hit 5-8 pure shots per round. I never had that situation with the x-18's.

The idea that blades are not for mid-cappers was true in my case. I did not know how I was going to strike the ball with the blades. I would have range sessions where I got into a groove and figured I had sorted them out, only to got out an hit them poorly, or to go half the round before I started to get in the groove.

Strangely enough my scores did not change much with the use of the blades. I think for the most part because the short and mid iron performance for blades and x-18's are similar and I do not rely on long irons for my game.

I always thought that it was a myth that blades improved your swing, but that turned out to be the case. When I started to play the callaways again, my swing was different and I was more of a digger taking far bigger divots and hitting down on the ball much better, with a much more pure hit.

I am very grateful now to have the x-18's. The Callaways do take out some of the highs and lows of playing blades, but I know what to expect with these when I go to out.

These are very good clubs for mid-cappers like myself. I will keep the blades for range work and maybe take them out for time to time, but game improvement clubs are for me.
