Took it straight from the shop onto the course, Beautiful club, easily 20 yards more than my Cobra on my first hit, more forgiving and arrow straight, in fact I found it more difficult to shape but a few more hits should sort that out.
Very thrilled to own this club.

First let me say I don’t believe any reviews or other statements claiming some 15 or 20 yards longer drives with a new driver. Common sense and experience tells you it doesn’t happen with the given swingspeed and limited COR. Being a golfer for seven years now I get to start tired with all those (marketing) claims.

This being said I was truly surprised my new Nike SQ Machspeed Black Square HL (what a mon¬strous name for a golf club) delivers not only much straighter but also 15 to 20 yards longer drives (compared to my Titleist 909DComp 11.5 with regular Matrix Ozik 5.5 shaft). I can now carry some bunkers that used to be sure traps for my drives. Shot dispersion has also become much better. It is not unusual for me any more to hit between 11 and 13 fairways.

It still cannot compete with the drives of the young low handicappers in my club. But I’m no longer embar¬ras¬sed to be left really short. And the old man (from their point of view) is more often in the short grass than they. I do admit to take pleasure in that.

It seems there is much truth in the statement the correct shaft is actually at least as important as the right (driver) head. I have a swingspeed around 95 mph, which is pretty average. I’m almost 45 years old, work all week in an office and carry a 10 handicap. So I’m probably not getting more flexible and my swing¬speed it not likely to increase.

It was not so easy to swallow my pride and to admit more loft (even more than 11.5) and a softer (yet stable) shaft might serve me better. It took me years not only to understand but to accept this. Nike un¬derstood these problems of the male ego and kindly did not put the number “13” on the driver head, but just a small “HL” (for high launch) near the hosel where it will not be noticed by yours playing part¬ners. The lighter (50 grams) and more flexible Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki shaft was also kindly painted black for this Nike model (although “Fubuki” is said to mean snowstorm and thus usu¬ally painted white). The whole club looks more like a “bomber” (to quote one of my playing partners) than a club for a mid-aged weekend-warrior. The rather plain headcover also looks much more respectable than earlier iterations. Nike has made great progress not only in terms of performance but also in terms of look, sound and feel.

The adjustment system (dubbed str8-fit) with its eight alignments is a nice and easy to use addition. I have changed the factory setting only once (to reduce the bias to the left slightly), but that was very helpful.

All in all this club is as good as a “square” driver can be. It is perhaps not perfect – the square form takes a little time to get used to and the sound, although much better than prior models, is still not quite as good as some others (e.g. the sound of Titleist models). But in return you get a very forgiving, very easy to hit and plenty long driver. The white alignment marks on the face help to set up just right. All you have to do is to swing smoothly and trustfully and let it fly. By far this is the best driver I have played to this day. The value is great; I got mine for half of the original price which was already quite moderate.

Since I have had knee surgery and have not played in almost 3 years i have been searching for a swing that will give me some distance and make up for my forward knee not being able to twist. I think I tried just about every driver TaylorMade, Ping, Adams, and my al time favorite Callaway Drivers, The Nike sq STR8 Black Has the best feel and was able to make up an extra almost 50 yards off the tee. It is very forgiving and will also help you set up to fade and slice it or straighten out your fade or slice

This driver is very consistent, forgiving and long. Much lighter and longer(distance) than my old Sumo2 5900. The Str 8 system is very easy to use. Very pleased with the performance of this club and would recommend it.
