air bear 10.5 loft

Summary:
Apparently I can only rate my Air Bear out of 5 ... I'd like to give it at least six. Without a doubt the best club I've ever hit, some practice balls scampering over the 250 mound (metres, not yards) at the range. My entire quartet of Achusnet Titlests (persimmon) have now been retired 'cos the Air Bear works just as well off the deck. I'me even thinking seriously of putting with it.

Reviewed by: Neal Norton ,  Shoot in the 80s , from Cookeville, Tennessee USA

Summary:
I've been using this driver for 18 months now and still like it. I hit 3 wood off the tee for years until I found this club. I hit a bucket of balls on the range and nearly all of them were right down the middle. I was astounded by the consistency. Ball flight was medium-high. They were going 220 yards on the fly. My swing is slower and smoother now, and I hit it 230-240. Off-center hits still go pretty straight.
Complaints: The shaft seems a bit soft for me. Shots are always fading. I might opt for a stiffer tip shaft. But you don't have a choice from Nicklaus on the shaft torque (at least I didn't). I hit the offset fade control club and hit it good, but I didn't like the look at address. I may reshaft with a UST or Grafalloy. I will post another review after reshafting.
Another sore spot is the sound. It is very annoying. The head is hollow and the beta face is very hard. I finally got tired of it and all the reactions from other poeple (I think Nicklaus wanted it to be noticed) and filled it with some expanding foam. I drilled 2 holes, (one is inside the space in the letter "R") at 2.5mm, and sprayed the foam in. When it stopped squirting out the other hole, I plugged the holes with a small piece of lead. The club now weighs 321grams and feels the same as before. (It added about 6 grams to the overall weight). It really dampened the sound and I'm very glad I did it.
You can pick on of these up used for around 150-200 bucks, and should be considered if you are an easy swinger. It will instill confidence. It feels very light, and you may tend to over-swing. The club face is very lively and when proper contact is made the ball really goes out on a boring trajectory without much backspin. My swing is always improving and I'll continue to use it till something better comes along.

I'm really surprised that www.golfclubreview.com hasn't reviewed even one of Nicklaus' clubs! Are they not allowed to? I rely on those reviews to help make a decision on clubs. The Nicklaus web site is not very informative.

Summary:
I'm a big believer in "it's the person swinging the club, not the club" bit I really like this club. I hit it straight and long. It does feel a bit light, but I hit it much better than the higher priced Taylor Made Firesole. Good club.

Nicklaus Air Bear 2 Beta Titanium

Summary:
After swinging the club a few times, it felt lighter than my other titanium club. It also hit straighter but not as long.
