Model Reviewed: avdp tour irons with tour stiff shafts

I bought these irons new in 1997, for nearly $900.. I have tried every iron on the market from 97- 2011, these are by far the best iron's I have played to date still.. will never let them go. I have played over 1,000 rounds with them, yet to break a shaft or anything on them.. The graphite shafts are amazing. I am 10 yards shorter with them than my mizuno mp-33's but the goldwin's are more accurate and 10 times more forgiving.. I am just now after 14 years and 1,000 + rounds having to replace the grips..

Customer Service

The grips are still easy to get, but you need a professional to install them for you and they must have the special tool to put them on.

They were nice when they came out, but WAY overpriced... now, after all the years, they are technically far behind.

I bought a set of the steel shaft used and found a set of graphite..I use Callaway x16, however these are the best looking clubs on the used club circuit.I should put them in my bag, and give them a couple of games?

When new these clubs were all about very high swingweight without being actually all that heavy, the shafts were very light, especially in the grip area. My dad had a set, he didn't care for them and wished he never sold his cobra baffler blades. For me the impact just felt a bit too harsh. I tried reshafting these irons with normal steel shafts, but the results were not too impressive. I will admit they weren't bad looking clubs, and that company also made a tour blade model which looked very nice as well.

I can't think of any other clubs that featured such a low balance point.

Model Reviewed: Goldwin AVDP Oversized

I picked up my set of AVDP Oversized from Play-it-again-Sports. I absolutely love these irons! I have a very technical swing and don't "feel" as much. These irons fit my swing very well and I actually have an easier time shaping my shots and trapping the ball. I'm glad I didn't get the Mizuno T-Zoids I was checking out...these hit better and cheaper to boot.

Customer Service

Too bad most of you guys won't experience these AVDPs, since Goldwin went out of business. Mine will stay in my bag!

It is ashame more golfers did not get a chance to try out the AVDP irons before Goldwin went out of business. I picked up a set at the airport in Boston about 10 years ago and despite numerous attempts have not been able to part with them. For my money (and my game) they measure up to the premium brands. I highly recommend picking up a set if the chance ever arises.

Customer Service

Unforetuneately Goldwin is out of business. Grips and clubs can still be found on e-bay though you will never see mine on thre!

Model Reviewed: AVDP TOUR

A couple of years ago I came across a set of the AVDP TOUR model irons and bought them; I was playing the AVDP Oversize model at the time. As much as I like the AVDP's, the TOURs are even better. The TOUR model has a slightly smaller head, very little offset and an upgraded shaft affording the opportunity to work the ball. They're not for everybody, but if you are a low handicapper currently playing the AVDP's, these are a must have. I'm like most golfers...I'm always looking for an iron that improves my game. I've tried Pings, Mizunos and I even have a $1000.00 set of Miura 201's im my garage. I try them all but in the end the AVDP TOURs (that I bought on ebay for $150.00) are in my bag.
