Ping Zing

Summary:
I bought these Ping Zings orange dot ten years ago when I thought I was going to start playing golf. I only actually started two years ago. I started with a 40 handicap (course adjusted). Over time, guys told me that they were known as the ugliest clubs ever made (...but they were still good, they whispered). I thought that I'd start looking for new clubs once I started shooting around 100. I thought the clubs were limiting me. After another year of practice, my score kept coming down. I was hitting my 7 iron 135 all over the place at first. All of a sudden, I started sticking 6 irons consistently at 165. I'm trying a new swing style and now I'm hitting the 7 iron 170 and 4 iron around 200 and change. I'm going to have to recalibrate my distances. I did find out that orange dot actually means something last year. I had them lie adjusted to black dot specs (since I'm 5'9"). So, while I thought 15 year old technology and my first set of irons was keeping me down, I've managed to shoot an 81 with these same clubs. I am now looking at demoing some clubs intended for low handicaps, but now I'm judging by the result and not the reputation. I'm wanting clubs that I can continue to grow into. If I can't hit the musclebacks or mid-handi irons better than these, though, I'll be keeping the ugly Zings. The guys in the clubhouse don't laugh as much when I'm sticking greens 5' from the flag at 150 yds and picking up my prize money after the tournament.

The best thing I can suggest for anyone at any time is to demo the clubs for a while. Don't buy just on reviews. I never even considered Mizunos until I hit them. Now they're strongly in contention. My Cobra driver sounds awful, but it won my demo test (hitting around 300 balls with each of 4 drivers over the course of a week) so I bought it. My Ping Zings took me from 40 to 15 hcp. If you can find a set to demo, give them a try. I'd guess with them being so old, you could find a set for $100-200.

My only set I've owned is the Zing.
I have hit a few times the Mizuno MP57 8-iron (like it very much), the MacGregor something that I hated, and the Callaway X-18 but not enough to form an opinion (once on a par 3).

So i have a tommy armour iron set and it was doing fine but my dad got a new set of irons and left his Ping Zings so i snatched them up and i love the unique look, great forgiveness, and feel. I feel like a more confidenet golfer with these because how can you miss the ball the face is massive. they are great.

PING Zing

Summary:
Great set of irons. I was playing some Taylormade burner irons for a long time, but they were getting too short for me. I picked up these Pings that were sitting in my brothers garage and I'm so thankful nobody claimed them and I got them for free! They are easy to hit with a huge sweet spot. Not as much feel as I would like in a set of irons, but I'm not even sure if it would make a significant difference in my game. Pick these up if you can!

Ping Zing, KTM Stiff Steel Shaft

Summary:
Simply the best irons I have ever played. The most consistent throughout the set; the most forgiving, the best ball flight (med-high), and the best distance (not long, not short). I played Big Berthas for a few years, however, the lack of feel took me on a 6 month odyssey to find a forgiving iron that also has some feel. Granted, these are not very workable, but at my skill level, not looking for that yet. But did want to know when I hit one well or a bit off, and this does that for you.

Customer Service:
Awesome, I have called a few times and they treat you each time like it's the first call they took that day and they are very attentive.
