Golf Impact Ball Summary:
The Impact Ball is designed to teach the correct position thru impact, i.e. club descending with handle leading and the shaft leaning towards target at impact. How does it work? Fabulous -- you basically cannot hit a ball properly without getting into this position. As advertised, it takes the focus away from the golf ball and places it on the body & club working together thru the golf ball. After all the golf ball is not the target -- the target is the target. This training device was very effective at helping me prevent scooping and flipping wrists thru impact. But I think the biggest advantage was showing me the importance of the body rotation during the golf swing, maintaining that “triangle” between my arms during the swing and utilizing my lower body to develop more power. I’ve added a club length to all irons and now much more consistent in making proper ball contact.
At risk of sounding like a sales rep, you’ll see I only gave it a 2-star for value -- $40 for a round piece of foam with indentations designed to look like a golf ball is kind of steep in my opinion. I found the foam a little on the “slippery side” (possibly gets slippier and harder after picking up oil/perspiration from skin?) and after a couple months of use, the foam has split in a couple places. The other day I picked up my 3 year olds mini basketball that was slightly under-inflated and found it quite similar to this product – with added benefit of surface having more grip. Due to being under-inflated, it allows your arms to indent into the ball much the same fashion. I suggest to find one in a store and try for yourself, then decide if better to purchase the original for $40 or a kids ball at Walmart for $4.
