2009 Pro V1x

Summary:
I don't lack for distance, but for some reason, I've always preferred lower-compression balls that feel soft off the irons. This summer, though, on a whim, I picked up a sleeve of the new Pro V1x. In the past, the only time I played the x model was when I found one in the woods, and to me, they felt like rocks -- so much so, in fact, that it got to the point that I'd give them away if I found them.

Well, forget all that. My swing has undergone some recent changes, and I'm compressing the ball better now, but I also think this ball has undergone some changes, because I absolutely bomb this thing. It's a solid 20 yds longer than anything else I can put on a tee, and it's a club longer off my irons, as well. Off the putter and wedges, though, it still has that great Pro V1 feel, and it stops the way it should on the short chips and pitches.

Is it worth $45 a dozen? Probably not. But the damn thing is head and shoulders better than any other ball I've tried right now, and I've tried a lot. If you're a decent ball striker and hit your driver an honest 250+ yds, I'd recommend that you give this ball a try. Stepping up to your drive on a long par 5, checking your yardages, and realizing, "Hey, I can get home in two from here" -- well, it doesn't take long to get used to that at all.

a lot of hacks complain about the price of this ball and is the reason they won't play it,hell you'll spend that much on a decent meal taking out the old lady to dinner, and end up crapping it out anyway!i'am a hack and see no distance lost by using this ball and has a nice feel around the greens that will help your short game.if you can get a month or two out of a dozen of these.it's well worth your money and your game.

Tilteist Pro V1x

Summary:
I just played in my first tourney and my father gave me a box of the Pro V1x to play with cause I usually play with whatever is on sale. This one day has changed my mind about balls forever. I don't know if it was the tourney that made me focus more or it was the ball. It was probably a little of both but I have decided to play with good balls from now on. I have a Cobra driver, Cobra 3w with a X-100 steel shafts, Ping i10s and Cleveland CG12s. I know, people always tell me that I could be much longer with a graphite shaft but I like the control that steel offers. I tend to swing out of my ass on drives and this ball takes off! I don't know what my swing speed is but my usual drive is carry 280, (toss up 50/50 to hit a fairway though, gulp). I lose about 10 yards compared to a full on distance ball but the feel on the par 3s and around the greens make up for it.

I have never played my irons so well especially on the par 3s. Direction of the ball is great. It is responsive enough to control a fade or draw into the wind and hold the line. I find that the balls like the Callaway HX tour56 are too soft for me as off hits will spin to never-never land.

I played with 1 sleeve for all 18 and I found that the balls did not scuff too bad. Definately better wear than the HX Tour 56. 1 sleeve was enough for me as this ball is fricking expensive! Remember, I play with whatever is on sale or people give me but I think this has changed. Perhaps this is the price of a little self-esteem. I am looking forward to trying the Pro V1.

Titleist Pro V1x

Summary:
First of all, you need to be a good player to play these balls or at least have a consistent swing speed of over 100mph.

There is a reason that Titlesit Pro V1x's are the most played ball on the PGA Tour. They simply out-preform the other balls on the market.

Distance is very good. Maybe a hair shorter than some other balls like the TM Red & TM Black.

Control is fantastic. These balls hold the line you put them on.

Spin is great as well. Not as much spin as the Pro V1's, but sometimes that is a good thing. The spin off the driver is optimal for many ball flights, especially a straight to slight draw shot.

Feel is also top of the line, but not the best. These balls do tend to be a bit harder than others, but again, you will be hard pressed to find a ball that has the ability to do what these do on and around the greens.

Durability could be better, but they don't scuff as easy as the Pro V1's and some other softer balls out there.

**REMEMBER** you need a high swing speed to play this ball. I'm not advocating that you swing from your heels with this ball, but you should have a good tempo swing that is at least 100mph with your driver.

I think the biggest knock on these balls has to be the price of them. That's understandable, not everyone has $40 to drop on 12 balls. But when you want the best ball on the market, you can find other ways of attaining them for cheaper (eBay - roughly $1.50 for practically mint Pro V1x's).

Summary:
Got back to golf recently after many years off. Driver swing speed 110-115mph. Used Pro V1 and found spun too much, making shots into the wind very difficult to control. 8/9/PW shots went straight up. These fly lower, longer, and great into the wind. Less control/spin in 70-100 yard range is the compromise. Feel harder when putting, but not unduly so. Very durable - three rounds with hardly a mark. V1s barely lasted one round.
