Wilson FG Tour Balls

Wilson FG Tour Balls

DESCRIPTION

FG Tour is a multilayer urethane golf ball that delivers the same long distance and shot-control as these urethane balls with one major difference: the softest feel of any urethane ball on the market. In Tour and better-player testing, the feel of the FG Tour ball was favorably compared to wound balata balls, yet with modern durability characteristics.

I must confess, I'm cheap when it comes to buying balls--I don't. Like most balls I use, I found this one. I decided to try it today (10-15-14) and I'm glad I did. It is long off the driver and long irons, but checks up about as well as other premium balls with mid and short irons. It is soft off the putter and has good feel on short game shots out of bunkers and when chipping and pitching. As other reviewers have noted, its urethane cover is very durable, and I used it for an 18 hole round without any serious damage to the cover, including a few shots with a sharp-grooved 60 degree wedge.

In short, it plays like any decent tour ball I've ever used. I'm not sure how much they cost new, but I imagine they are probably less than "big name" balls. The only thing I can't comment about is the important factor when using any ball--consistency from one ball to the next. Big name brands are pretty good about this, and I'm unsure how this ball stacks up in that regard.

Very good ball! This review is on the FG Tour "blemished" balls I found on Ebay from Budget Golf. They were only $12.99 a dozen so I thought I would give them a try and I'm glad I did. First of all, you'd be hard pressed to find the blemishes in these balls, they look fine! Second of all, these are a very good ball. They have good distance off the driver and irons, feel soft off of the irons, putter and chips shots around the greens. They hold the greens on approach shots and check up when chipping and pitching onto the greens. After my initial round with them, I got back on Ebay and ordered two more dozen, I think they are that good!

Great ball. Feels much like balata balls in the old days. But much more durable. In the same league as premium balls from Titleist, Callaway and Taylormade, but at a lower price and without the marketing humbug.
