Shoots in the 80s Model Reviewed: ERC Fusion and ERC Fusion+ Summary: I own an 11-deg Fusion+ in Callaways stock regular flex shaft (which says Callaway but is made by Aldila), and it is my favorite driver of all time. I hit it high and straight or with a draw, and I had 4 decades of fades prior to that. At 11-deg loft Callaway built a 1-degree closed position into the face.
I bought an 8.5-deg model of the ERC Fusion with the same stock regular-flex shaft, and had trouble with a banana ball. I discovered that the half-degree models were designed a degree open, so I purchased a 9-degree loft Fusion with the stock regular-flex shaft. (The Fusion lofts without the .5's are designed square.) The shots straightened out, but do not draw for me. It is my "winter time in-the-north-wind" club. It obviously hits the ball on a low trajectory into dormant Texas winter fairways that allows the ball to run and run.
I cannot tell much difference in the rebound of the ball from the hot Fusion titanium face and the hotter Fusion+ titanium face. Sound is good (not loud nor tin-like); feel is solid; shaft remains in control of clubhead (no lag nor whip).
I like the 380cc clubhead size; not small, but not like the melon-on-a-stick jobs either.
I have purchased several "new technology" driviers from Adams, Nike, Nickent, and Ping, plus tried some TaylorMades, and the only brand that rivals the Callaway ERC Fusion for ME is the Ping. I think I just got lucky in the marriage of the shaft and head to my fast-tempo swing mechanics. I hope you will get lucky, too! Customer Service: Callaway has great service, but tend to be expensive for replacement grips, head covers. Similar Products Used: Callaway Big Bertha, Nickent Evolver, Ping G10, Nike Str8 Fit, Adams Speedline, several 460cc golf products company models
