Model Reviewed: Nike Sumo2 hybrid
Summary: I shoot the 17 and 20 square head. Basically, these are a 5w and 3w replacement for me. As long as you do your job these guys will do theirs. Make a somewhat decent strike and the ball will GO. If you make a big error (chunk it, top it) you will get a crappy shot same as any other club. But, I have hit some really off center shots and had acceptable results. Very forgiving club. I also like these guys for specialty shots. They can scoot under trees nicely. Ball flight with the regular shaft is what I was looking for. Lots of hybrids I have hit send the ball into orbit. The Sumos seem to keep the flight mid high.
I am an equipment snob. I was dead set on having all Mizuno in my bag for years and years. These Nikes work and that is all that matters. Got mine off Ebay.

Summary: While on business trip, I played 2 round with my brother and tested his 17* Nike square hybrid. I've played several hybrids: taylormade, callaway, Sonatec MD, Snake Eyes 685HT, Nickent and Adams. My current clubs are 3H Nickent and 4H Adams, I like them both but IMO the 17* Nike is much more accurate for me. Ball goes directly to where I wanted. On a same par-3, I aimed directly to a flag stick for a par and a birdie. I NEVER like Nike , but this is a winner. I plan to buy one on eBay if I could find it. HIGHLY recommended

Summary: you will have a hard time finding these new anymore, they came in 2 thur 7 and 1 thur 7 in the oval shaped version. i have the 1 oval and 2 thur 6 in sq version. once you get to the 6 its about 3/4 size of the 5. they take a time to figure out how to hit them but it is possible to hit the exact same ball flight as an iron.. draw, fade, straight, and with a soft landing it just depends how good the player is. Dont be scared of the offset in these clubs it only helps. they dont have as much as a crisp sound as the taylor made but they do have a pleasing sound when hit well. What i like the most is the sole is flatter than other hybrids which i think makes it easier for a new player that doesn't hit in the center consistently.
i recommend the sq version as the easiest to hit straight and long.
the Mitsubishi shaft says it is a high launch shaft. i have no experience in reviewing shafts against other shafts but it feels solid. i have all mine in stiff.
the 1h is the only club i have trouble hitting consistently well but the rest feel like cheating compared to my irons. i may not be straight 100% of the time but i will usually not be short with the fat shots that i would of had with my irons.
if you have a problem with hooking your irons then maybe this club may not be for you because of the offset but for me now that i think i understand how to use the offset in my swing it is a sweet club.
my golf bag currently looks like a demo bag for nike hybrids and most people are surprised to see 6 hybrids in my bag but the guys i play with regularly now have all added hybrids to there bags.
its kind of funny that the best club i think nike makes is the one t. woods doesn't play or need.

Summary: The Sumo2 woods lag behind aesthetically. The construction and quality looks like a WalMart brand. I bought the 3 and 5 woods because I wanted square woods (the Ft-i didn't quite do it for me). There is a noticeable gradation in size between the 3 and 5 wood. The 3wood is oversized and the 5 is a more conventional size. The Sumo2 woods required a small adjustment to my swing. I had problems with the timing at impact with which resulted in semi skulled shots. After tinkering, I was able to hit the club correctly by keeping the weight on my left side (i'm right-handed) throughout the entire swing. The face feels very strong at impact, and a flushed hit has a nice punch to it. Distance is similar to most woods I've played, and playability is okay. I normally play a CGB max 3 wood and R9 5 wood. I bought the Nikes to rotate my woods. A bit disappointed that I had to change my swing for a club. But I like the fact that they look like toys and make the game somewhat more fun to play.
