This is an awesome fairway wood. Its nice off a tee and the turf too. This thing is accurate. I like to use it of the tee on a short par 4. I can knock it to around 230-240 off the tee. Easy too draw I usually hit a weak to hard fade so it will staighten out a tee shot or from a a nice lie in the fairway

I agree with the previous review on the TM 580 fairway woods. Maybe it's the titanium rather than steel that makes these clubs special. I own the 3, 5,and 7.
These clubs are lasers and I haven't hit any fairway clubs like them. My golf buddies tell me to never lose my 5 wood or I'm toast.

Why post a review for a 4 year old club?

This spring I decided it was time to completely retool my golf bag. With the exception of my Cleveland CG10 wedges I had planned to replace every club in my bag (driver, fairway woods, hybrid, irons, and even my putter). Through the process I must have demo'd just about every new club produced by the top manufacturers in golf. I bought new irons, and a new driver, and a new hybrid, and even that new putter, but despite my best efforts, I wasn't able to find a single fairway wood I liked better than my R580 TIs. They sound great, and the feel when you hit one on the screws is fantastic. The 3 wood is as long as I'd ever need it to be off the turf, and the 5 wood fills in the gap to my hybrid perfectly.

For my money, the R580 Ti fairway is one of the all time great clubs.

The one knock on the R580 TI is the stock MAS 60 shaft. Even in stiff flex it's a bit whippy. I've actually decided to keep the head but replace the shaft with the new Aldila VS Proto.

Customer Service

Had to replace my R580 driver twice. Hassle free with a quick turnaround time on both ocassions.

Excessively long for a 15* 3wd. Easy to crush from tee or fw.
Sets up like a mini driver. Head appears larger than really is. Once you hit a couple off the deck you'll know how easy it is to control.
Trajectory & sidespin are easily controlled. No suprises here.
Get a stout enough shaft. A common complaint i've heard about the 580's is that they tend to balloon. I use an xflex shaft & have no such problems. Not a fan of the stock MAS...

This review is for the original 2002-2003 r580 Titanium fairway woods, not the 580xd steel fairways that have been out lately.

These are hands-down the easiest fairway woods I've ever hit. Off the tee they're fantastic, but I've NEVER been able to hit FW's off the deck to save my life. These have changed that for me.

Ball flight is med-high, and getting the ball airborne is effortless. I'm not sure how they compare in distance to other fairway woods, but they're no slouch in this department.

I would HIGHLY recommend these clubs to anyone.

I recently purchased the 3+(13o), 4(17o) & 7(21o) Nike SQ fairway woods, looking for extra distance to reach Par 5s in two. (I'm not the longest hitter but consistent) so I retired my Taylor Made R580 fairway woods. I did not however trade them in!!! No way, I couldn't. They are simply magnificent woods.

1. Accuracy

You can work the ball both ways with these clubs (especially a draw, which is probably the most difficult of all shots for the amateur) or for a change, why not hit it as straight as an arrow. 5* for accuracy.

2. Length

A Mid to high launch with these clubs means a little distance is lost especially into wind. Having said this the balls land very softly on greens, combine this with its consistent accuracy and contact off the face, they really give you confidence hitting to greens from 170yrds to 210yrds from the fairway/rough. 7 wood is absolutely fabulous club to hit!

Why did I change to Nike SQ? I'm still asking myself that question, I'm tempted to pull the 580s back out. I haven't written a review for the SQs yet, hitting them poorly at the moment. Will give them a chance though, only played 4 rounds with them so far.

In summary, if you are thinking of buying the 580s, definitely do. I'm sure you'll pick them up for nothing.

Fantastic fairway woods. Really easy to hit! I strongly recommend them for all level of player.

Customer Service

Taylor Made are always a pleasure to deal with.

I am a high 80's and low 90's golfer...I borrowed my partners R580 3 Wood and was crushing it off of the tee...I normally hit my 3 wood about 200-210 and I was hitting 240-260 off of the tee with this club..I am a short guy (5'-6") and the club was perfect..I am going to get one right away..
