Summary:
My last set of Pings were the G2 irons, which I sold a few years ago in an attempt to find a better iron. Went through quite a few, the last being Titleist AP1s, which by the way are excellent. I started demoing the G10s and thought they were quite good and a whole lot better for my game than the G2s and AP1s. Then I hit the G5s along side of the G10s and was surprised that the differece was very slight. They prodeced the same quality shots, instilled confidence and were cheaper, so I bought a set brand new for under $400. For me, this is a good as it gets for irons. The G5s can do anything you ask and the quality is, of course, first class. I'm glad my search is over and that I gave Ping another chance, for the G5 is all the club I'll ever need.

Summary:
I have owned many sets of irons, but finally got fitted for a set of ping
G5s. I bought the 4-SW set. The SW is a great option as opposed to a 3 iron. It is 54 degrees and is very versatile. I finally have a sand wedge that will carry 100 yards. It's great for longer bunker shots (i.e. 40 yards etc..) I could go on and on about the one club in the set, but the entire set is extremely forgiving. This would be a great set for beginners and I feel it's a set that a 70s shooter wouldn't mind playing either. Very friendly looking at address and launches the ball high. I noticed these are very easy to draw too. Another added bonus of pings is their durability. You just can't scuff the soles. They'll look great after years of play-what other irons can you say will hold up as well as pings. Finally, they are made in America, not mass produced in China.

Summary:
Having read some of the previous reviews I must make my comment on these irons. I to am an equipment "junkie". Over the past 2 1/2 years I think I have bought, used and sold at least 30 sets of irons. All the top brands, every model that Mizuno make left hand as well as Titleist, Callaway, Cleveland, Taylor Made etc. etc. I was looking for "that set" that performed as good as they looked. Got sucked in to buying both Titleist 690MB and 695MB iron sets that looked a million dollars but performed like 20 cents. I am a 70's shooter when "on song" but now shoot 80's probably because I cannot settle on a set of irons for more than 4 weeks. Up till now I have never used any Ping equipment, mainly because I had a hit of the old Ping eye 2 irons years ago and hated the heavy offset. Up till now the best set of irons I have used were a set of Taylor Made 200 irons I bought new, but that was 10 sets ago. After recently failing dismally with a set of Titleist 695 blades, I thought why not give Ping another chance. WOW! I bought a new set of Ping G5's blue dot for a steal on ebay and I must say this is the "Holy Grail" I have been looking for. I buried my pride and didn't go for looks this time, they aren't pretty but I am at a point that I dont care how they look, I am looking for performance only. The offset is only minor and similar to the Taylor Made 200's I had used prior. I could go on and on comparing to the stacks of irons I have used but in a nutshell, these are GREAT, I got back the club and a half distance forged irons robbed me of, they are very easy to hit, go very straight most of the time. Very hard to hit a deliberate fade or slice, so working the ball is harder but I can live with that. I can safely say my iron searching is over! Now if only I can find THAT driver????

Summary:
I got the G5's about 3 weeks ago and played 5 rounds to date. Wow. I didn't believe the reviews that said they hit longer with new clubs but it's true. The G5s are at least a club longer than my older wilson pro staff stiff graphite clubs. I got the stiff graphite in my pings and a silver dot setup. Ball striking is very soft and ball flight quite piercing, I naturally hit a high ball and am able to keep the flight just right now.

I got the 4i-sw, leaving out the 3i, may order it as I am hitting my 4i confidently every time. The SW is also very nice and solid off the grass for approach shots of 60-90m for me but am having a hard time with it from bunkers because of the large soul/bounce and does nothing for my confidence in the harder packed bunkers at my course.

All in all, I would recommend these irons. They're solid looking at address and backed up with consistently solid striking. I wouldn't though recommend the SW for bunker play due to my inability to use it. I have been a confident bunker player in the past but now I have found myself taking a second shot from the sand around the greens on several occasions in the last couple of weeks. Longer shots from fairway bunkers are a dream for the same reason(larger soul = more forgiveness).

I also love the feel and (heavier) weight of the (stiff) graphite even though it does feel very soft at impact. The only real negative is the price, atleast here in Australia.

As a side note, won the club competition the other day actually ( yep true! ) and will probably use the voucher to get a new (other brand) wedge for sand play!
