Model Reviewed: ADAMS IDEA A3 IRONS & HYBRIDS

Let me start by saying WOW! I Started off playing a set of PINGS and then got caught up in the Tiger Nike hoopla and had to get a set of Nike Sling Shots. Then began the trouble, I could not hit the sling shots and it got into my head. I suffered through this for 2 years, until I could justify buying a new set. I got the Adams a3 set and golfed with them today. I noticed a remarkable difference in distance and accuracy. I have always been a good Hybrid hitter, so I expected not trouble with them. I did notice much more distance in using them. It was the irons that amazed me. As other reviews mentioned the pitching wedge was very easy to hit. Hitting these clubs I could judge the right club for the distance a lot better.

One lesson I learned from my past mistake for all beginners out there is that when buying clubs ensure that you get them fitted for you by a good pro. They will watch your swing and adjust the clubs to suit your swing. The biggest thing for me was that standard clubs, even know judging from my height and other measurements should suit me, did not. When I swing the bottom of the club was crossing the plain at the toe. A quick adjustment to my clubs leveled them and low and behold straight long shots.

BTW - I bought mine at Joe & Leigh's Discount Golf Pro Shop at The Pine Oaks Golf Course If you live in Mass - otherwise http://www.pineoaks.com - they have an eBay store.

No I do not work for them, but the gold pro spent 2 hours with me and free lesson tips and let me take a demo set out to use prior to purchasing. I have not experienced this kind of service before, so wanted to pass along the recommendation.

Overall, great set of clubs, the comments about the look and shine wearing off by others may be true, however, I do not buy my clubs to look pretty, none will after a few good rounds in New England. It is all about the feel of the club. This is the right club for me and probably other in my experience level.

Pros: Irons PW, 9, 8, 7, 6.
Even though these are smaller irons (standard size)they are nice to hit. But you have to hit them pure.
Cons: Very light clubs hard to determine where they are at top of back swing.
They are not truly game improvement irons. Easy to lose distance.
Quality of finish is poor in my opinion not anything like my Adams GT-2's. Grooves have small particles of dust or whatever in the finish. The groove quality is not pristine like my GT-2's.

Pros: Hybrids 5, 4, 3.
Nice clubs easy to hit. Look good.
Quality is much better than the irons.

Cons: The bottom of club accumulates a lot of dirt and are hard to keep clean you will need a small brush. The face of the hybrids shave the plastic coating of golf balls very easily. Are these grooves legal with this much bite? Do you really need a 5 Iron- Hybrid?

If I would rate the Hybrids by themselves I would give them 4 stars. The Irons 2 stars because of the finish quality. They will not stay looking new for long.

Customer Service

I questioned the authenticity of my irons because the shafts were Apollo not True Temper. The Adams rep told me that these are authentic clubs.

I used these clubs at a course in South Africa and was blown away. I currently have a set of Fat Shaft Wilson Deep Reds and although I like them I am really unhappy with the variation I get from them. I used the A3's only for one game and hit the ball straight and the distance was consistent, I did not like the driver and will probably stick with the Wilson Deep Red driver as I hit it straight consistently. I played at a course in Knysna, South Africa called Pezula and hit a 78. This is a links course and absolutely beautiful. Normally I hit in the mid 90's to high 80's and to hit a 78 just blew me away. I have only ever once before hit in the 70's and that was at a much smaller/straighter/flater course.

These irons are great, but a little deceiving. They are game improvement irons, but the mid and short irons paly closer to a better player's iron. They are extremely long due to the lofts being stronger than a standard set, but I think most club makers are doing this now. The hybrids are the best I've ever hit. They don't balloon like some other hybrids (this could be due to the pro launch red shaft). Overall the performance of these irons aretop notch and the price just went down due to the fact they now have the A4's on the market

These are great clubs (really a 4.5-4.75 star set, but thats not an option)... I dont know if I am hitting the ball longer with them than I was with my Adams GT3 (I am hitting it longer, but I have also improved considerably). I play with stiff shafts but I dont swing that hard and I can get the 3 iron (hybrid) out to 200 and have it carry around 175+.
The hybrids do balloon sometimes but they still seem to have predictable results and yardage gaps with the clubs even when it climbs on you... The hybrids also land it softly on long par 3s which is great.
I cant really work the ball (that I know of) but the clubs are forgiving and if you hit them well you will be pleases with the results.
Only reason prior poster was pushing the ball is probably because of his swing...

I bought them a couple of months ago.
The hybrids are easy to hit, even for a beginner. Irons 6 to 9 are awesome, with a crisp at the moment of impact that let you know that th ball it´s flying high and far. PW is remarkable from 100 yards and near the green. Excellent clubs!!!

Great clubs. After 15 years with an older set of Taylormade knockoffs and Mizuno forged blades I decided that it was time to embrace technology. Let me tell you folks, technology is your friend! The hybrids – 3,4 and 5, hit the ball high, but with a piecing flight. Very easy to hit, even heel and toe hits will move out there. The hybrids are easy to work, if that is what you like to do. The irons (6 – PW) are very controllable, very constant ball flight and a crisp sound at impact. Easy to move left or right. I find that I am 1 to 1.5 clubs longer with the irons.

Customer Service

In a word, terrific. These clubs were custom fitted for me by Adams and were delivered within 10 days of the order being placed
