I was looking for a cheap set of blades and stumbled across these. They are not completely blades but I loved the look and price. $50 on ebay with free shipping. FOund out later that these are the first clubs to feature a progressive change per club. Starting with the biggest cavity on the 2 iron through no cavity in the wedge and lower. Love the feel, have played many forged irons and these feel as good, they are light and have a smaller head than more modern clubs and have very little offset. I have heard bad reports on the shafts, but love the tt trigolds (only 3 steps). These irons are very accurate, have great shaping ability if you want it, but can play straight if desired. Will play these for the foreseeable future. COnsidering buying a back up set just in case. If your looking to get into a more tradition style iron that is not a full blown blade and don't feel like spending a grand, I would give these a try.

First off , i have to say i've become a golf junkie, i'm becoming the guy like most of us that wants the " next best thing " to hit easier and farther , owning 3-4 drivers and 2-3 sets of irons, hybrids , putters that are sitting in the basement collecting dust because i thought something different or newer would help ; well, like many others that have said this , i agree newer is not better. I bought a set of Cobra SZ irons which are lovely to hit off the fairway and in the rough , but off the tee i would hook everything because of the offset so i would have to adapt and close the face in on address which is a no no , but when your playing you do what works at that time and try and correct it later ; so getting back to the Evos , i seen a set at a used golf store back in December , with the Tru Temper Tri Gold shafts for $ 70 , read the reviews and thought well, i should test them out in the hitting area , seemed decent enough so i picked them up.

As i'm playing with them this year , so far it was like a bad first date that got better as you kept going out , i started out with a lower club speed and my 4 and 5 irons off the fairway and my tee shots with any iron would go spray extremely right, something i did when i was first starting out, my playing partners would be looking at me like " What the hell is wrong with you today ? " After alot of driving range sessions tinkering with my swing and understanding each club when i hit it , these are clubs that you must have a good swing, which i feel mine is decent but not fast enough, they forced me to generate more club speed and come down harder on the ball, and when i did ? WOW ! I will never be a scratch golfer, but I have never hit a ball so pure in my life , occasionally i shank the odd one, but that's to be expected , i love weight on the bottom , the thin line at address and the ability to dig into the ground on impact rather than a sweeping motion that game improvement clubs force you to do, from the 6 iron to the PW, I love the trajectory and loft going into a green from 170 yds. and in , amazing ! The other day i was playing a tough par 3 , 197 yd. hole over water, most of the time i would use a 3 hybrid or a 3 iron, well i tried my 4 for the hell of it and drove it over the green , it almost scared me, that's not me ? but i'm seeing i'm hitting 1 club higher than i should be now .The deep rough , depending on the lie , you have to be smart , i found so far you have to swallow your pride and club down and get the ball out and take your poison , but from the fairway to the first cut of rough, very nice ! It is true, these clubs force you to swing properly and with good tempo , if you can get them cheap like i did , try them, you won't be disappointed, i only wish someone would come out with a newer version of these because I would be all over them .

Recently dug out old evos. Had been playing with mixed set of wilson forged and golfsmith tour cavity. I still have wilson forged 3&4 irons and have added the evo 5-pw. The offset on the evo 3&4 irons is unbearable. I have played or hit alot of the new clubs- r7,mp32,etc. I don't know why I ever took out the 31s. Reshafted with dgs300 shafts and hid the trispec shafts. My iron game has improved immensely. Distances are comparable to the newer clubs, where they kick butt is in their workability. Knock down shots, high softies, draws and fades are back in the bag. And so are the evos until I find something better.

I'm a 12 these clubs are tremendously unforgiving on my frequent mis-hits. They do feel great when I hit the infinitesimally small sweet spot, but miss a little bit and the ball goes no where, and feels awful. I'll trust the judgment of those who say these are great clubs...but for anyone over a 10 they are not a good choice. They were cheap, but I think I'm going back to my Ping Zing 2's.

About 6 years ago I realized my game was starting to go so I switched my blades for the EVO 31s. Best move I made. Great clubs; somewhat forgiving but very workable. Recently I have seen used sets of my clubs being sold a various golf retail shops. A word of caution--the original EVO 31s had TruTemper Tri-Gold shafts which are terrific. The ones being resold now have a different shaft which makes the club play completely different and not nearly as good. For the Evo 31s, the shaft is the key.

This will be my 6th or 7th season playing golf and my first full season playing these irons. I played them last year but didn't get out nearly as much as I am used to and so I am still working with these irons.

What I can tell you is that they are very much a risk / reward type of club. If you are having a really good day and hitting the ball perfectly then these will be great irons for you. If you aren't connecting with the sweet spot on the irons on every single shot, however, your game will suffer. What I have noticed is that I lose a lot of distance with these irons. In no way can I hit these as far as my old irons (Callaway X-12s). Even when I hit the ball perfectly it does not go as far as it would off my old set. With that being said, don't be discouraged because I said that. Irons are not distance clubs but accuracy clubs and that is why you carry a whole set of them with you.

I think the bottom line is that if you want to become a better golfer and you are in the position to do so pick a set of these up. They feel like butter on your best day and really give you a lot of feedback as to how you are hitting the ball. A word of warning though is that these are not for seniors or women who do not take a full swing, nor are these for the recreational golfer who only gets out to play just a few rounds a year. If you are serious about getting better these can help you and will help you work the ball but if not, get something for yourself that will keep the ball straight and will make up for mis-hits without you losing a ton of distance.

After learning to play golf, i started shopping for a set of irons. I i knew i didn't want a strong cavity back but was in no shape to hit a blade. So i searched for a cheap game improving set and the evos looked nice. These clubs were great for me, a developing player. It took some time to learn how to hit them, but once i did it made me a better player. Now only 2 years later i feel i'm ready for a set of blades. Since these clubs were so cheap i had no problem just giving them away. They were cheap clubs that helped me develop my game over a short period of time. Overal they were great clubs to learn on before i got some baldes. However, if you want a game improving set for the rest of your life, i would advise to spend more money and take advatage of new technology.

I finially broke down and bought a new set of Tommy's 845 V/31 Cast irons. I can't believe what a difference it made for me. I went from double or tripple bogeys to pars and sometimes bogies. I started to play golf 2 years ago and it's my best buy since then. I can lay the ball down now 3-5 feet away from the flag from 160-180 yards. To me it's the great progress.

I stole these of my club professional about 2 1/2 years ago for $600 (i'm in australia)they were in almost brand new condition,he gets a set ever month anyway ;),best decision i ever made these clubs are gold i adore them, when you hit the sweet spot it feels so good and flys so straight, the spin isnt that good on longer irons 3,4,5,6 but 7 and down are perfect. When you hit of center shots the club certainly lets you know it,there not very forgiving clubs but that's what makes you a better player.Within the first 6 months of having these clubs i went from a 15 handicap to a 7 and also won junior champion in 2001 and 2002 and missed by 1 shot in 2003 :(.All in all i say there awesome clubs for ppl on a handicap of about 15 and lower.

1 year a ago it came down to these vs Adams Tight Lies irons. From what I had been reading the EVO's were more of a better players club and I was struggling to break 100 at the time. I went with the Adams clubs and never regreted it. When I came across these on EBAY I just had to try them. They are definitly smaller heads then I'm use to but the results have been excellent. These clubs have feel, workability and the distance is good. I shot best round ever first time out. I love these irons !
