Ben Hogan BH5 non-offset

Summary:
I bought these used and like new at Golf Galaxy for $100 because I travel a lot and don't travel with my "regular" clubs. I took these with me to the WIlliamsburg area and shot some handicap reducing rounds for sure. The shots felt soft and solid off the face. Ball flight was higher than what I like, but since it was very straight, I can live with that.

I like the straight forward simple look with the Hogan name and emblem in the cavity. The brushed satin look is also cool. I disagree with a different reviewer in that the Apex stock shaft is a very good shaft. It is the fore-runner to the TT Dynalite shaft. It is a great shaft for players not needing a Dynamic shaft. The tip is softer that the Dynamic for great feel and added launch to shots. It is not for everybody, but is a great shaft for most mid to high handicappers... who this club is excellent for.

Can not beat this deal for what I paid!!!

Hogan BH-5 Irons

Summary:
I've been a blade player most of my life, Wilson Staff, Hogan and recently Mizuno MP-33. I was having problems striking the ball well and thought it might be time to move to an iron easier to hit. I tried many irons, most the big name brands. I stumbled across these irons at Dicks Sporting Goods for $199.
All I can say is WOW!! My iron game went from not striking the ball well to instantly hitting my irons shots very crisp. I really can't explain it, but these irons are long, they are VERY soft, almost feel like they are forged. They truely are an amazing iron. I did make one mistake, I purchased the Offset and probably should of bought non offset. I have problems cutting the ball with an offset, but a draw is quite easy, naturally. If you get the chance to try this iron, I would suggest it. The stock shaft is a True Temper Dynalite I belive, cheap shaft. I reshafted myine with Flighted Project X 5.5 and never looked back. Very nice club. Took me awhile to get over not looking at a name brand club, but knowing these are basically Callaway X-14 remakes, my confidence was OK. If you set these irons next to most New Callaway irons, X-20 or X-22, you won't see much differnce. I believe the Hogan are basically Callway irons with a different name on them, which explain why they are such an easy club to play.

Ben Hogan Bh-5 Irons

Summary:
I felt I had to contribute to this forum solely due to the fact that I depended on it myself when making the decision to purchase new irons. I searched high and low for information, reviews and opinions about golf’s new technology in the iron division. I was paying a set of 97 DCI oversized + GOLD irons for the last 12 years. I considered myself to be right in the mix with all the friends I would play golf with. Usual rounds in the 80-86 range, with occasional mid to high 70’s. My best round is a 73. During my quest for new irons, I swung just about every club in the intermediate category, seriously…I must have hit easily 1000 balls with different clubs over about a months time. I was the five time a year golfer for the last 5 years due to having kids and starting a new business. But I have the bug big time and I was ready to upgrade! I just happened on a website that mentioned the B-H5 Iron as a major “sleeper” of a club. I went to Dick’s due to there being a sale of $199 on them…(note) only about $300 cheaper than the club lines I was browsing. So I taped them up and hit them along side all the big names…I hit them better!! Not just in my head…seriously…better and more consistent! So being thrifty, I found a set of standard, regular flex used clubs on EBay. $127 plus like $15 for shipping. I just put them on their maiden voyage today (8/11/09) Holy Crap!! I mean Holy Crap!! I must have had 10 shots that completely blew me away in regards to the results based on the bad contact. I couldn’t believe it…it felt like I was “stealing” strokes from the golf gods! HA! 4 Iron… 200 yards with a nice easy crisp swing! I read the reviews…most seemed a little far fetched ok, but they helped me in my decision a lot! So I’m going to help you right now…in all seriousness you will not find a better (maybe equal) but not better club today even at the $500 range! They’re all over the place, buy a set today…you won’t be sorry! Haven’t golfed in a month…shot a 42 (9) from the tips at a course I haven’t played in two years…also really bad yardage markings as well…with a Sky Caddie I bet I could’ve shaved another 4-6 strokes off my score! I was hitting them that well! (For me) Good luck!

Ben Hogan BH-5 irons

Summary:
I just received my BH-5's today and went out for 9 holes to test them out. I was amazed at how well I struck the ball.

I had 5 GIRs and broke 40 on 9 for the first time. I was shooting in the high 80s at my best last season. I think this year will be different.

I've played Warrior Custom clubs for almost 10 years. I thought I needed a better manufactured clud and considered blades. The BH-5s will be a good upgrade for me I think.

I recommend these clubs for anyone seeking to shoot lower scores and have developed a fairly consistent swing.
