Maltby MMB Irons Review

Maltby MMB

Description
MALTBY MMB MUSCLE BACK IRON HEADS
The Maltby MMB Form Forged irons are the result of the challenge to create a muscle back type design that has a high degree of playability (Super Playability Category of the Maltby Playability Factor). As a part of the design, we wanted to have features on the design that actually showed how mass was redistributed to improve playability. This was accomplished by using “weight relief pockets” and a unique (inverted) muscle design. All this while still giving the player the feeling that they were looking at a traditional blade profile. If the feedback from our product development test committee is any indication, we succeeded, with honors. The Maltby MMB irons bring a new level of playability rarely seen in the muscle back blade category.
-8620 Carbon Steel for soft feel and adjustability
-Form forged to precise specifications
-CNC milled M-grooves offer the best of both V and U grooves
-Super Game Improvement in a traditional blade profile
-Progressive “weight relief pocket”, inverted muscle and shorter hosel design allow for correct cg location to maximize playability
-Slight progressive offset
3° of bounce in 3-9 irons, 4° in PW, 5° in GW
-Tour beveled leading and trailing edges of the sole prevent snagging
-Classic Mirror Chrome finish
-Universal hosel allows for .355" and .370" tip shafts
-Recommended ferrule – 74PI

Summary:
Playing 9-4, TTDG stiff soft-stepped in 9-6 and TTDGHL soft-stepped in 5 and 4. Very nice top line, thin. Sole of club is a bit wider than usual for a muscle back, but it's very useful to limit digging.
Overall, I find these to be forgiving and controllable, soft and solid. Very pleased with performance and price.

Summary:
Bought these to replace my MacGreggor 1025CM. Liked these better and are more forgiving. The 1025's were awesome, but just too hard for me to get consistant. Love these irons. SHafted with Project x shafts. The combonation dropped my index by 3 points in the last 4 months of the season. The forgivness of a cavity back with the perfomance of a blade. Would never buy off the rack and would put these irons against any OEM.
