Model Reviewed: G5 5-PW Graphite Shaft
Summary: Recently bought the G5 irons 5-PW graphite shaft set at a clearance sale for $380. I'd have ordinarily preferred steel shaft but I could not resist the temtation of owing a Ping set especially having heard so much about it.
After playing 2 rounds, my comments are:-
a) these irons are easy to hit. It forgives slight swing imperfections. Serious flaws such as topping, push etc get punished with loss of distance and direction.
b) ball flight is high which is good in someways and not good in others. The high ball flight ensures a straight shot but it's difficult to play in windy conditions.
c) the graphite shaft performs consistently i.e. no evidence of twisting but is a tad too soft considering these are aldila-made shafts. My swing speed is measured at around 85-90mph. I guess if I slow down to 80mph, it would be ok.
d) the irons heads are well chromed (matt silver) and well made. However, there is something about the finishing I can't get used to- the matt finishing. It looks plasticky and somehow gives me the impression it is chromed plastics (the website says it is 17-4 stainless steel)
e) even well struck shots has little feedback i.e. there is little or no feel. My Callaway Big Bertha 2004 has some feel on well struck shots despite having undercut channel.
f) the colour coded fitting system (for lie angle variation) is a boon for people who do not fall within the manufacturer's definition of standard body frame. The Callaway Big Bertha does not offer any variation on lie angles and its standard length and lie is tailored for someone who is 5ft 10in with short arms. Ping's standard set up is more sensible as it is 1/2 inch shorter and 1/2 deg flatter. I could not get the red dot set but I could tolerate the standard black dot.
Overall, this is a good set for beginners and high handicappers. Mid to low handicappers will have to look for stiff graphite or steel shafts.

Summary: Dude, I hit these irons straight. I'm talkin' straight at the pin all day and all night long. I just slap 'em down, line 'em up and then let my smooth swing launch that ball right into the middle of the old green pasture then putt that sweet ball into the hole. Am I getting you excited? I thought so. Go pick up a set and tell 'em Big Tom sent ya.

Model Reviewed: Ping G5 Irons
Summary: Wow. I had been playing a set of Taylor Made Burner OS Irons with Bubble Shsft for the last 11 years. Typically shoot in upper 80's- low 90's. In April I purchased a set of Ping G5 Irons with steel shafts. Golf has never been the same. I am routinely hitting these irons 6-8 yards longer and dead straight. Even the 4 iron which I had stopped using becuase I couldnt hit it straight, is straight and long around 185 yards.
These clubs have made me a much more consistent player as I can count on hitting them straight and long consistently. I have easily dropped 5 strokes off my game since playing these irons. Best irons I have ever hit. Tried a set of Cobra 3100's and Callaway X16 in years past along with the TM, but now will play these Ping's for a long time

Model Reviewed: Ping G5
Summary: After playing Ping Eye 2's for a number of years I tried several different brands but after hitting some demo Ping G5's I stuck with them. Even though people say they are for mid-range handicap players I tend to disagree. I have a 6 cap and found these clubs very consistent with good feel. I guess I have always liked Ping and I have played the G5 3-PW for a couple of years now and wouldn't change
