Shoots in the 80s Model Reviewed: 685x forged irons Summary: Just have to give you some feed back on the 685x irons. As these are quite new on the market, it might be of intrest to you.
I wanted to improve on shotmaking and experience the feel of forged irons.
Ordered by internet with Jim McLain of Mclain Custom Golf. Was very helpfull.
Combined the heads with graphite design G-tech and midsize golfpride wrap grips.
All very affordable for a quality iron like this. The combo looks very nice and the heads look blade like but have a shallow cavity. There's some extra weight below.
They arrived very fast, so today i just took the 8 iron for some holes.
It hits fantastic! Hits sweet and is more forgiving than expected. If not hit on the sweetspot it wil still go a long way and fairly straight.
The trajectory is high. Higher than my old cobra 3400. Distance is comparable. The shaft is very good, but i have to get used to the higher stiffness (is it 5.0?) I had steel shafts regular.
I didn't know i could golf this well.....! I've hit multiple shots from 120-130 meters next to the hole! Made a few pars, although i only had the 8 with me!
I also shaped my first shot ever (intentionally!)
Backspin with the 8 is no problem and combined with the higher trajectory, i had to repair a lot of pitchmarks...
The grips are very nice and give confidence. Even when not wearing a glove like i do.
Although they tend to get slippery when wet. I'm used to halfcord.
All in all i'm very happy and the clubs are a good value for money. With these clubs i can improve my game ánd have more fun.
Looking forward giving the other irons a test.
