I have had this club for about 15 months and still love it. My avg putts per round is 1.8 and I play alot of golf. The black coating with white stripe give a great assistance to alignment. The feel is light which, for me, promotes a soft touch and exellent distance control. I have had multiple people ask to buy it from me but I think it will be with me for a bit longer.

experimented with the macgregor version: the feel is simular but the alignment and setup is better on the original version.

I had this putter for years collecting dust in my closet, the original Amazing Grace MOI 35", by Bobby Grace. I used the Titleist Scotty Cameron Futura with great success, until my head got bigger than puttting ability. I bought the Scotty Cameron Newport 2, big mistake. Zero forgiveness. I dusted off the Amazing grace had it converted to a mid-belly putter, and walla, out came an auto putter. During this time I had the futura, Newport 2, Odyssey 2 ball, taylor made Monza roza, and an old ping answer to test out head to head. Now each putter requires a certain stroke based on their design, but the Amazing grace was a clear winner. On off center hits, it still goes straight. Feel, more buttery than the Scotty Newport 2, Distance control superior to the rest tested based on my oppinion. Last game the putter got hot and yeilded 3 birdies, 2 from downtown with breaks. Honorable mention is the Taylor Made Monz Roza and the Scotty Cameron Futura. This is a hard putter to find nowadays even on fleebay. The new Mcgregor version does not even compare. Get the original with the red HSM insert, and have it fitted with the right weights and lenght.

WOW! This putter puts a great roll on the ball. My distance control has increased dramatically. The long white line makes alignment easy and accurate. The face remains square due to the balance of this putter. I would not recommend if you putt with a arched stroke. If you putt straight back and straight through, it is dead on. I have not played a better putter. Expensive, but worth every penny in my book.

Model Reviewed: Bobby Grace "Amazing Grace" putter

I purchased this club after demos of the Futura, Big Ben, Oz, 2 ball, and several other "high moment of inertia (MOI)" putters. I found this club to have the most straightforward alignment aid (a long straight line directly behind the ball), and I like the feel of the insert. Some complain that the insert is too soft, but that is subjective; this works for me, so that is what counts. It is very easy to line up the putts, and with a center shafted model, this is ideal for a pendular "straight back, straight forward" stroke. (The heel shafted might be better for a more rounded stroke.) My accuracy in the 3-5 foot range is increased considerably, and since I like the feel of the insert, it has helped me be much more accurate about distance on longer putts. The sole is designed to allow easy putting from the fringe without "catching" on the grass. This is one clevely designed putter! (I guess Vijay and Retief decided it wasn't a bad club either; both are currently using a version of this putter.) Obviously, people are highly individualistic in their preferences. I wouldn't dream of saying "You've got to get one". But if you are in the market for a putter, demo one if you can. You might find "love at first sight that lasts" like I have. Incidentally, MacGregor has bought out Bobby Grace, so soon MacGregor dealers will have these for sale.

Model Reviewed: Amazing Grace center shafted

I customized the putter as follows -- 1 1/2" off shaft (to 32.5"), substitued Lamkin pistol grip, with extra build-up on top half, black top plate with white alignment line glued to putter head, with lead tape strip along the putter face. The result is a "stealth fighter" look. -- I purchased the Amazing Grace MOI after reading a review in www.golfclubreview.com. I believed it would suit my style, since I swing in a pure pendulum style (straight arms) and I prefer a soft putter face. I use an alignment line on my golf ball, which meshes perfectly with the long alignment line on the putter. It took me a few days to adjust to the heavier swing weight and gauge the distance. In particular, I discovered that this putter works much better if my left (leading) wrist is virtually straight and my right wrist (trailing) is significantly cupped back (pronated). This promotes a smoother transition from back to front and better/more consistent energy transfer at impact. Distance control and accuracy are excellent, and the ball roll is exquisite. One surprise is how well this putter performs in the fringe. I used to always use a 22* utility wood to putt out of the fringe, but the sole of the A.G. MOI is well suited to "float" on top of the fringe, just like a wood. And the putter gives the ball an affirmative forward roll that carries the ball over the fringe with a minimum of bouncing or checking up. I wouldn't say that short putts are automatic, just yet, but my percentages have improved. Overall, I'm very happy with the Amazing Grace. When it comes to putters, the goal is to have a putter that you can trust completely. I can really trust the AG! Now if you can only invent a putter that reads greens.... :-)
