Lately I have been having a lot of trouble on the greens using my nike oz t100 mallot putter. It was just to complex in the design, it was hard to concentrate. So I went to my local golf shot and i saw the g5i tess. I thought it looked really small and frankly pretty dumb looking compared to my nike. But I tried it and I was amazed. It was so simple to align. Just line it up and bam. I just shot a round with 25 putts! This is comparible to about 36 with my nike. Before this review I shot in the mid to high 80s. Now I shoot in the 70s. You cant beat that. Please if you think there is no way you will buy this putter at the first look at least try it.

The Ping G5 Tess has saved my sanity on the greens. I am more consistant in the short time I have used this putter and have more one putts than ever before. The weight and sight just feel right.

My putting has always been very inconsistent. Mallet or traditional blade, no putter ever really felt right. In all the years of messing around in pro-shops and sporting goods stores, I'd never picked up a heel-shafted blade putter. I saw the tess leaning in the rack, and said what they hey. I picked it up, and it was much more robust than I ever expected. I lined up the first putt from about 10 feet, and for the first time since I picked up this crazy sport, a putter didn't feel awkward to me. I hit 9 out of 10 putts in the store, and just assumed it was a fluke. I spent a week thinking about the club, and what more consistency in my putting would do for my handicap. Finally, I went back to the store and tried it out again. It felt just as good, and I putted just as well with it the 2nd time...needless to say it's been in my bag ever since. And it's done just what I was hoping for. I may not be putting like a pro, but I putting more consistent and true than ever before. I guess sometimes un-traditional equipment works better than the traditional gear.

When I first saw this putter I thought, "no way can I putt with a heel-shafted blade putter..." because I currently use a Craz-E and a Futura, which promotes exactly the opposite type of stroke I thought the heel-shafted putter encouraged - i.e. straight back and through versus more of an arc or a "swinging gate effect". Just for fun, I picked it up and started putting with it. I can't really explain it, but it felt so "right" - simple, uncomplicated, no crazy "plumber" hosels, no wild metallic gadgetry, just some really cool "orthographic" sightlines added to the top in a funky blue-white color combination. Also, its weight was surprising - it is quite heavy and promotes a very smooth stroke, nothing like the feather-light blades I have experimented with before in golf shops. The grip has to be the best putter grip in golf - just like the other reviewer said, like butter in the hands (but doesn't melt). The stroke you need with this putter is indeed more of an arc, with a swinging around effect, so ball position more center is crucial to get a squared putter face on contact. The combination of the look, the weight, the stroke - something new, which you always need with putters every few rounds anyway - and the price (half the price or more than a new Cameron) had me buy it and put it in the bag. I am still getting used to the new ball position and the stroke, and tend to yank it left every now and then, but hey, changes take time. Now I know why Phil putts with that little blade: just line it up, no gimmicks, no complicated weights, etc., and PUTT. The face insert is harder than the G2i and easier to gauge distance; my old Craz-E was always tough to gauge from long distances (so I went ahead and picked up a G5i Craz-E as well). A great putter, an odd name (is that one of the Solheim men's wives names?) and a classic.

This one is staying in the bag for awhile. Picked it up at Edwin Watts after holing 5 15-foot shots......one armed! I was picking up some Srixon balls and decided to go putt. The Tess was the first one that caught my eye...perhaps because of its shorter size...might be a 32-33 incher...havent measured. I picked it up and it had perfect heft. It is clean and has nice setup. I hate those large clunky putter with ball alignment circles and, weights, etc. With this one...you just aim and putt. Like I said ... i one armed several putts with this baby and holed em'...I dropped 119.00 for it and I am glad I did...my Wilson putter looked like a dinosaur. Do yourself a favor...try this putter. I never thought i buy a Ping putter but this one did it for me. Oh.. it also has a sweet Winn grip that feels like butter in my hands.
