Ping Ug-Le

Summary:
Do you believe in divine intervention?

I've tried numerous putters (Scotty / Yes / Odyssey...) and had some very good days, but they always seem to return to the not so good days again before long.

A couple of weeks ago, I played in an annual memorial event to raise cash for a good cause. At the end of the day, there was an opportunity to raise more cash through buying raffle tickets. I never win anything, so it's just like making an additional fund donation. Unless you win...

It was kind of funny that I won a putter called 'Ug-Le', and it brought a few laughs as expected. I'm now wondering if someone up there decided I'd never find the right putter for myself, so he sent me this one. Never had a Ping putter before.

It's centre shafted and face balanced with a nice weight. I think the distance, and the putter almost swings itself, returning nicely through the back of the ball which just takes off down the intended line; fantastic!

Alignment is very easy, uncluttered, not fussy. You can double check the alignment by slightly rotating the putter face, as when you see equal amounts of material either side of the shaft, you know you're there. You can then concentrate on that smooth, slow swing without worrying with alignment any more! The short putts just drop now with alarming but very agreeable regularity. The 4-10 footers are also sinking much more frequently. I dropped a right to left downhill 10 footer to win our club better-ball semi-final on the 18th last Sunday morning; I don't know who was more pleased - me or my playing partner! I know I must have something to do with it, but it really helps when you have confidence in your gear. Do you believe in divine intervention? Either way, I would suggest you give this putter a try. I probably wouldn't have...

Had Ping i3s, i5s and the iSi Driver. Never had any reason to need customer service, but didn't have to wait long for the clubs.

UG-LE

Summary:
Didn't like the shape. Didn't like the sound. Didn't like the length (36").

But, the distance control was about the best, and I made lots of putts. The alignment aids are a no-brainer.

I should have taken an ugly gal to the prom, the performance there may have been surprising too.

Ping G5i UG-LE

Summary:
This putter is simply outstanding. As a mallet-style putter it has good wide balance and weight distribution without feeling too wide and unwieldy. The face is soft but not mushy. And, since it is a mid-shaft putter, alignment is easy and putts roll true to your line. This putter improved my game by just being in my hands.

PING UG-LE

Summary:
I have recently changed to this putter from the Titleist Laguna 2. I find this putter improves the ability to set the clubface along the target line and the extra weight helps maintain a pendulum action in my putting stroke. My putting has improved particularly in the 4-10 foot range which is very important.
I am still getting used to finding the range with 30 foot+ putts but expect that as I get more used to it that this will come. Overall it is the best putter I have ever used.

Ug-Le

Summary:
I wanted to try a center shafted putter for the first time and decided on the Ping Ug-le, pretty much on a whim. The putter I used before the Ug-le was an Odyssey Two Ball white steel, heel shaft, and I had pretty good results with that putter. Also have used the Bobby Grace M5K putter, heel shaft, with good results I found that with the Ug-le I never felt confident with the alignment, probably because of not being able to get used to the shaft very near the target line. Also struggled with distance control on long putts, tended to hit them well by the hole, and also missed a lot of short putts to the right of the hole with this putter. Also, to me, the contact felt a little less solid with this putter than with other putters I have used. After using it for about 3 months I decided that the center shaft putter is not for me, so am going back to a heel shafted putter that is face balanced, such as the Odyssey two ball putter. This putter might work very well for someone who likes a center ahaft putter. I should have tested the putter more thoroughly before buying. A friend of mine also uses the Ug-le putter and his results have been somewhat better than mine.
