Shoots in the 80s Model Reviewed: Ben Hogan Apex Sand Iron Summary: This is a mid-1980's vintage model (sunburst and Hogan signature on the blade with "SAND IRON" stamped on the sole) that I picked up on ebay for next to nothing. What a find! It's a 57 degree model with a moderate amount (10-12 degrees?) of bounce and a slightly 'oversize' head which definitely inspires confidence. Excellent results out of greenside bunkers and off the fairway from 75 yards and in. Also great for chipping to a tight pin. Just lay the face wide open and slide it right under the ball. The only limit to what you can do with this club is your imagination!
I have generally found that the quality and playability of Hogan wedges made from the mid-80's through the end of the 1990's are of the highest order. There is nothing on the market today at any price that can compare. All the wedges I use are Hogans from this era. I recommend re-shafting some of the newer models (5610 and 5010) with Rifle Spinner shafts. They will absolutely amaze you! Customer Service: Excellent. They definitely aim to please at Ft. Worth. Similar Products Used: Titleist, Cleveland, Ping and Tyalor Made. (no comparison whatsoever!)
