The Athen's Golf and Country Club is a very underrated golf course that is great for practice or a friendly game. The course features 9 holes with 3 levels of tees (Blue/White/Yellow-Red). The club offers golf carts and push carts.

Hole 1 (Par 4) - 312/335/364

Hole is straight with a relatively wide fairway. There is a ditch in the middle of the fairway that should be avoided. The green is raised slightly and is surrounded almost completely by sand.

Hole 2 (Par 4) - 292/374/395

Hole is straight with trees to the right. The green is downhill and easy to reach in 2. No serious hazards.

Hole 3 (Par 3) - 120/146/161

Hole twists down and to the right. Water to the left with a large tree which asks you to use a little draw to reach the green.

Hole 4 (Par 4) - 252/335/346

Hole plays much longer than yardage suggests with a slight dog leg left. Second shot requires good loft as the front of the green is protected by a sandtrap.

Hole 5 (Par 4) - 260/315/329

Very sharp dog leg right. Cutting the corner is risky with large tree and water hazard to the right. Fairway features a couple of sand traps and the green has sand on both sides.

Hole 6 (Par 3) - 123/185/203

Hole is a very demanding par 3 which requires carrying the ball over water 80% of the way. It's a defining hole which is tough to birdie while possible to par.

Hole 7 (Par 5) - 403/475/492

Most golfers will get on the green in three as the fairway is very wide and straight. Fairway does feature sand traps and sand also protects the green to the left.

Hole 8 (Par 4) - 307/357/372

Hole seems longer than it is. Fairway is wide open and greens are protected by some uneven ground which can be interesting chipping from.

Hole 9 (Par 5) - 406/465/492

A good finishing hole to make up a shot. Plays long from all tees and has a good wide fairway with sand traps scattered. Keep it down the middle or to the left and you will reach the green in two (maybe). The green is accomodating with a good slant back, perfect for those wood or low-iron shots.

The course features the nine holes, a small clubhouse, and a practice green. This place isn't ritzy, but for the price is it awesome. It is rarely crowded which is rare for a decent golf course. It is located off of a major highway and close to Decatur and Huntsville.

Customer Service

The guys in the clubhouse are just normal guys. They are cool to chat with and are classic Athens residents.

This is a nine hole course that is on average a marginally good time. The conditions are average, every hole is straight except fot two, and the scenery is virtually nonexistiant.

Customer Service
