San Marcos Golf Resort - Golf courses, Chandler, Arizona

San Marcos Golf Resort - Golf courses, Chandler, Arizona

DESCRIPTION

Older course with smaller greens. Course was a good value for a day of golf between playing the more expensive venues.

We played on a very windy day which made hitting the smaller greens even more difficult. The course was in good shape, putts rolled good and true.

I recommend this to anyone on a budget who wants a good day of challenging but fair golf.

Listed greens fee was achieved through last minute internet booking in early February 2009.

We expected this course to be plush and well maintained. As the reported oldest course in Arizona, and with the Sheraton name plastered all over, we hoped for a fine experience.

Unfortunately it was not a good as we hoped. The pro shop opened almost 15 minutes late with several golfers waiting outside while the pro got coffee.

Although several people were ready to tee off a little early, the starter refused to let anyone off until the exact starting time. We were the first foursome off, which may explain some of the problems we ran into.

First, the fairways were ove watered and in spots were under water. There is a canal running through the course, and it's hard to see, so watch for it.

The fairways were alright, but the greens were terrible. The roughs we OK, and sand traps were in good shape, but the overall impression was of a course that had passed its prime. Numerous trees line the fairways and add charm, and the houses along the course are interesting (except the many apartments),

The course is relatively short and plays fast.

Unacceptable -- very poor

My wife and I stayed at the San Marcos Resort and played the golf course there. We found it to be in great shape. The fairways were excellent and the greens were fast. The many huge trees framed the holes nicely. Would certainly stay/play there again.

Customer Service

The guys working the bag drop and on-course beverage staff were friendly and helpful. The guy in the pro shop could use some people skills though.
