Los Amigos golf course is a great example of what golf will be like after the big one is dropped. Never have I seen a course so poorly maintained and in such disarray as this place. On 09-22-07, my neighbor talked me into playing here in what I can only guess was a practical joke. Located next to a juvenile detention center in the heart of Downey this place appears only minutes away from total implosion. The starter’s office is ancient and looks like something that was pieced together from left over trailer park supplies. You can’t touch anything without getting a dusty film on your hands. Carts look like they are on their last legs and haven’t been cleaned or washed out in years. The course is wide open, especially on the front nine. Not very challenging, straight shots with greens all slanted towards the fairways. The back nine has a few dog-leg fairways, again all are wide open. At one time there appeared to be a large lake in the middle of the back nine. It’s now drained and looks like a toxic waist area with a handful of sickly ducks just waiting for their time. The cart paths are a cross between a moto-x track and mud bog racing bordered by cement parking curbs. On some paths I was afraid to take my cart through for fear that I would sink. Not a yardage marker on this course, just a handful of wooden stakes in the fairways that give you some idea of your distance. Be warned and stay away, it had been some time, but I completely forgot that the new and improved Rio Hondo golf course was just two blocks north. Light years ahead of this place. You’ve been warned!!
