Poppy Ridge, the sister course of Poppy Hills in the Monterey area is a fantastic layout for all golfers who can break 100. If you cannot break 100, please do not come out here. (And if you do, please play the right tees). PR offers 3 different 9 hole layouts set in the Livermore valley near the wine region of that area. It can get VERY WINDY out there, so morning play is highly encouraged. The Merlot nine is probably the hardest, followed by Chardonnay, then Zinfandel. The layout is deceiving more difficult than the card would suggest and the large greens can produce several 3 putts. Play smart, avoid trouble like the deep greenside bunkers, and you should have a good day. Speed of play in the morning is very good, and like most courses, gets worse the later it gets.

Customer Service

Always excellent.

Although the surroundings of the golf course is mostly barren, hanging out at the clubhouse overlooking the 3 9''s is very enjoyable after a round.

Three nines, always in very good shape, no trees, lots of wind. Good course, but very generic, no personality. Don''t expect it to be like its sister course, Poppy Hills. Hills is a beautiful course and a nice walk. Ridge is nothing to look at, and is an absolutely brutal walk. I think they intentionally designed it so you have to rent a cart, the tees are like a quarter mile from each preceding green, although they easily could have designed it otherwise.

Shoots in the 70s

I was British before I became Californian and this is just like a links course: always windy, one tree in 27 holes, difficult but very fair.

Customer Service

Very friendly, great telephone booking system, and always on time...now that''s important!

Shoot in the 80s

The single best value in the area, period. If you're an NCGA member, it's as cheap or cheaper than many muni courses, and blows all of them away. 27 holes, each different, each fun.

Customer Service

It's fairly easy to get a time, they are ALWAYS on time and the staff is one of the best in the area.

The range is perfect. The restaurant's nice, the golf shop's fully stocked and the clubhouse is beautiful.
