We especially love the surrounding views of the driving range, so spacious, so well maintained.

Shoot in the 80s

This is an excellent course, one of my favorites. Very challenging, tight, well designed Robert Trent Jones design. Much sun in this area up from the coast a bit, away from the fog. Conditioning is usually good. It has elevation changes, water, trees, and a par five double water carry you wont see anywhere else. I have never had a negative experience with the pro shop or anyone else here, and have always enjoyed my round, if not my score.

Shoot in the 80s

It had been a year since I last played there but because of a small tournament, I had to play last weekend. I dropped out of the Mini-Membership because of the reduction in member courses and the conditioning of Laguna. It used to be a jewel but has been going steadily down hill. The greens are multicolored due to the different grasses that are taking over and they were very slow. Add the fact that they were just aerated, putting was a nightmare. The roughs are just that. The fairways are always wet and soggy and several holes are a joke. First you start off with no practice facility to warming-up on. Golfers who shoot in the 80's and 90's need to find out what part of their game needs attention for that day's round. The only way that can be accomplished is on the practice range. The dogleg right 10th hole has always been a challenge. There is a steep hill along the entire right side and out-of-bounds on the right and left sides. They have now opened-up a new tee box tucked in the right-rear corner making hitting the narrow fairway off the tee very difficult. Hole 15, a par 5, is still as challenging as ever needing 3 perfectly hit shots to reach the green. Throw in 2 over the water shots and a fairway full of goose pate', it's exciting.

The restaurant I'd rate a "B".

Located in the foothills above Monterey. Humbling experience seeing all the private 737's overhead on final for Monterey. Fun reasonably priced course. Wonderful staff including pro who showed me how to get on Poppy for resident rates. Condition was B+ for the most part...much better than the average muni. Not the toughest course around but well worth the trip.
