Not a good deal. Condition only fair, price high $40 weekday - walked first 9 and charged $20 for cart for 2 golfers for back nine. After the round discovered that cost $11 if teed off 2 hours later. This info not provided prior. Staff unfriendly and one was absolutely rude. This is the first review I've ever posted and I'm not a complainer but this course deserves it.

No others in this area. We travel a lot and golf a lot. We've paid this price for better courses and have played on this type of course for far less money.

Nice course. There are a few really neat holes, otherwise a good muni in decent shape.

Customer Service

The staff is not very customer service oriented.

The Lakes and Canyon nines (the original 18) are ok, but really aren't much better than a typical muni course (the conditioning here is pretty decent). The Oaks nine is a very weird layout featuring many shots that have trouble on both sides of a very tight fairway. By trouble, I mean thick jungles of trees and OB. The first three holes are pretty good, but then the fourth is an extremely strange par 4, followed by the sixth, eighth, and ninth which are ridiculously tight with unrecoverable hazards on both sides of each fairway. If you play here, try to get on the Lakes and Canyon.

Played Feb. 06. Had a special deal offered through Sea Pines Resort. $150 for 1 night's stay, breakfast, and a round of golf for 2 at either Avila Bay or Blacklake. Pretty good deal. I've played Avila before so I picked Blacklake. Played the Oaks and Lakes courses. Oaks is short, targety, forced carries, with hidden flags. A decent hilly layout. Conditions were decent. Greens fast and fairly good. Tee boxes were ok. Same with fairways. Lakes is longer. Flat, with some water carries here and there. Overall a fairly easy course. Conditions were not anything special at all. More like a muni course than a resort course. Greens a bit rough and chopped up. I'm going to assume that the Lakes and Canyon courses get more played than the Oaks. Overall I was a bit disappointed in this golf course. Its conditions were not what I hoped. Still a nice layout.

Customer Service

OK. Has a range.

Major disappointment for having driven that far. The 2 nines originally built is a consistent 18, but the other nine they added was a very "targety" layout completely out of character. Conditions were just average.

In a word - Lovely. Great condition, very lush, good greens, Huge trees of different variety and lots of topography changes.

Customer Service

Typical proshop staff - they continued talking to each other about last night at the nightclub while I waived my credit card and got ignored until they finished thier conversation.

I really have mixed feelings about reviewing this one. On the one hand, in my opinion, it's the absolute jewel of the central coast. on the other, I want to keep it to myself! Moved here a year ago from the bay area, and fell into golf paradise. The green fees are tremendously good compared to silcion valley's, and there are quite a few discounts to be had on top of the excellent regular rates by joining AGPA. Very well-maintained all around, Extremely friendly staff, and nice, challenging 27 hole layout. You can't go wrong!

Customer Service

Fantastic cusomer service, they will find a way to accomadate you, and do it with a smile!

The best kept secret in California! Located in the little town of Nipomo, between Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo, it is a 27 hole course nestled in a beautiful development in an open wooded area. It has a driving range. It's a good challenge. The course is in great shape, with somewhat narrow fairways and the greens are FAST! But once you get used to them, you can't go wrong for the money. (American Golf dicounts). There is a Lakes 9, a Canyon 9, and an Oaks 9 (toughest - NARROW!!!!) Recommend Lakes and Canyon if doing 18. The Oaks is not in quite as good shape. Did 27 holes a day for 37$ with cart!! (Third 9 was only $5) I don't know if this discount is all the time, but it won't be much more than that. (Used American Golf discount coupons) The best part are the people working there. They are so nice. You can tell they love the game and love to talk it. We felt at home in 5 minutes! Hotels restaurants are close by in SM and SLO. Pretty good steakhouse in Nipomo. Also weekly condo rentals on the course. Will try them next time. Get there if you want a great golf vacation.
