Shoots in the 80s

Layout is good. There are some long pars fours and except for the one par three mentioned by the other reviewer the 3's are tricky. The uphill #5 is tough. #15 is hard to hit with or without the wind. I like the casual old style of the place. Very unpretentious. And the course is fun. For the price it's outstanding. Greens are very slow. It has drainage problems. Like the other reviewer said, give it a makeover like Harding and it would be great. According to a marshall they have only a few people out there - less than 5 I think, compared to nearly 30 at Harding. It's worth playing. Beautiful out there by the ocean.

Customer Service

Fine with me. Unpretentious and friendly.

Shoots in the 90s

This is an old MacKenzie course that's seen better days but at ... $24 with the resident card, I had to give this place a try. Yes, the clubhouse is, shall we say, very very old school and yes, they don't only take cash and yes, the restaurant / bar is more of a pub but ... there's a certain charm to this kind of clubhouse atmosphere. You very much get the impression it's a "family" / "locals" kind of hang out. I disagree about the customer service / reception. After I had checked in without any problems, and then stepped up to the tee I was told by the starter who checked me in "good luck with your round" and he even mentioned my last name. I haven't had that happen too often anywhere. Now for the course condition. It's a rather flat affair. Overall condition is "ok" but certainly not great. Greens were very soft but in fair shape overall. However, you can not bump and run a shot onto the green. Many of the green fronts were designed by MacKenzie to allow for a shot to run onto the green with a properly mowed front, but unfortunately that's not the case here. Bunkers were very level and wouldn't be much of a test. It's like if the sand got low ... someone just added sand back in without recontouring the bunker again. So condition is fair and probably as good as it will get for a parks & rec managed course that is this old. The layout is definitely MacKenzie on the front 9 wholes but probably not all of the back nine. Everything you've ever heard about MacKenzie bunkering and greens is right here to see. There were many holes where the bunkers appeared from a distance to be right by the green, but upon approaching the green you would find that in fact the bunkers were 20-30 yards out from the green. Similarly, there were many front green mounds about 20-30 yards short of the green that were deceptive from a distance and they didn't appear from afar. So the trademark MacKenzie "camouflaging" is evident on this course. Fairways are wide open and definitely give the player of any level a fair chance out here. It's fun to break out the driver on this course. Overall, I would give this place a go for the money + enjoy a little of the MacKenzie architecture. If only this place could get a facial like Harding ... then we'd be talking.

Shoot in the 90s

Decent course for the price. It has a pretty good layout but the 96 yard par 3 8th hole is pretty much a wasted hole, its like the designer screwed up by not having the 9th hole route back to the clubhouse so they added a wasted hole, a big reason why when you pay to play the back nine you only play eight holes. The 16th hole is like playing at Monterey with the coast to your right and the sounds of waves crashing the shore but the wind can play havoc when its blowing. The greens and fairways are in fair condition, but it gets really muddy on the 5th hole.

Customer Service

Customer service SUCKS, its like you're bothering them. They only take cash no credit cards whatsoever, its like these people are stuck in the 1950's.

The driving range is a a mat with a net 5 feet in front of it, I can warm up better by swinging my clubs at nothing....for free. The pro shop is a joke, its like they took a small office and put a bunch of junk in it to sell. The restrooms are just a small step above port-o-lets....the whole clubhouse in general is like a dungeon.
