Excellent private Jack Nicholas designed golf course located in Pleasanton, CA. Upon entrance into the gated community of super luxury homes you get the sense that you are about to experience a golfing treat--and you definately do! The course plays long--so be prepared to hit 2nd shot long irons, hybrids, and even some fairway metals. The fairway's are very wide and generous, but littered with well-positioned bunkers throughout--I know because I found a few of them!. The greens were receptive the day I played (today, 11/10/08) and consistently rolling approximately 9 1/2-10. I must note that I played in a special Monday NCGA event when the course is usually closed. It is very possible that the greens typically roll quicker when staff is there and greens are rolled in the am. They did roll true to the putting green speed. Excellent facilities include nice grass driving range and beautiful clubhouse and pro shop. Though built among a gorgeous housing development, the homes do not come into play. Bottom line: if you get a chance to play this great track go for it!

Customer Service

I played at a private event on a Monday, so the course was officially closed. However, a "skeleton" crew worked the event and took good care of everyone. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The course is very similar to other Nicklaus course I've played including the Nicklaus private in Palm Springs and his beautiful course in Truckee CA, Old Greenwood.

Shoots in the 80s

This is one of my favorite courses. There is so much elevation change and wind that you have to get really creative with the shots you hit. Playing the first few holes you feel like a god because you are downhill, downwind. Then you start heading back up the hill and against the wind, bringing you back into reality. The Jack Nicklaus tees are pushed way back and can really break you if you aren't that long of a hitter. The greens are fast and deceptive. You just expect them to break more than they do. A few of the holes have waste bunkers, which if you value your clubs, you should avoid at all costs. The 18th hole there is the best hole I've ever played. It's 603 yards from the back tees, with a tee box that feels like it's a mile above the green. I wouldn't recommend this course to beginners because of the numerous challenges presented, but for the average and better this is an unforgettable course.

Customer Service

The staff is awesome. They are always courteous and helpful. Make sure to ask them for tips before you play, because you are going to be dumbfounded by some of the holes.
