Shoots in the 90s

Played 05/02/2010 with my dad and I can tell you I was pretty disappointed. Not only in my play :-p but in the condition of the course as well. For being a course settled near the coast, you'd expect the course conditions to be very lush and healthy. That certainly is not the case. I've played courses in the Northern Arizona desert that had better fairways/greens/tee boxes. Fairways are rock solid and have numerous patches of dry/dead grass and dirt. We provided relief for ourselves just to hit off some decent grass. Greens are heavily areted, virtually unreadable, slow, and covered in sand. Bunkers are also very firm and didn't need raking after stepping in them. Tee boxes are full of divots and crab grass. Overall it's a poor course and not worth anything near the $55/person we paid. The layout is challenging, fun and you will pay for errant shots. Location, and weather could not be better. But, those high points don't make up for the poor upkeep.

I got this tee time/price off golfnow.com...because it was 17 bucks and after reading some of the reviews, I expected to be hitting off mats! The greens, fairways and tee boxes were not in any worse shape then any muni I have played recently. They weren't perfect, they weren't horrible. The course is tricky...quite a few elevated tees and greens...you can't go up to every par 4 tee box with your driver in your hand...but there are a few open/wide fairways. You definitely pay for errant shots. I played on a Friday at around 12p and finished at 5:15...I think that is typical and to be expected on a busy public course...especially one with a slope of 130...I would play this course again in a heartbeat for $20...and anyone who trashes on this course is probably a golf snob and should stick to playing courses that are $75+....

Got a great price ($15 w/cart weekday pm) on line. But not really worth the drive from LA county. Course was in very poor shape. Has some interesting holes. Winds through the sand canyons of the south OC coast. But greens & fairways so poor that even for $15 not worth the aggravation.

So we played this past saturday. I found Click4teetimes at $20 including a cart at 2:45 pm. It was crowded, but we finished by 7 so about 4 hours. What were we to expect on a sat PM.

Anyway, it seems this course is in much better ahpe than the previous reviews had noted. Sure the fairways have a few brown spots, but nothing rediculous. The greens were in good shape and broke how they were expected to. My bigest complaint is the ammount of balls i lost. I realize this is my fault, but this is not a course for someone who sprays thier drives. the fairways are thin, with out much rough before it goes OB. I will play this course again AND AGAIN it easily worht $40-$50 with a cart, but for $20 it's a steal.

Customer Service

The starter was cool, otherwise no contact.

I played this course on Sunday March 4th despite reading some horrible reviews. Im not a golf course snob and I can have fun playing on anything from Bebble Beach to the Armand Hammar $3 course filled with 50 yard par 3s. Im glad I played this course becuase I can now say I have officially played the WORST golf course in So Cal.

The reviews are true. I saw a guy peeing in the parking lot, the driving range is beat to h*ll, the putting green is so severly sloped you can hardly put without it falling off the green, the chipping area is a small sliver that is useless. The grass is mostly brown (yes i know alot of bermuda is dormant this time of year but there is hardly any grass on the ground). The fairways are thin and the greens have grown small from being mowed in too far for years.

The course could be fun if it was fixed up and the greens were re-done but they dont look like they have been airated in years and even well struck 9-iron from 130yars with a Pro-V1 relased off the back of the tiny green. I dont complain much about any golf course but this one is a stinker.

Customer Service

I had a 12:45pm tee time from GolfExtra for a single but since there were no other singles, twosomes or threesomes waiting on the waiting list, they put 2 foursomes out in front of me and i didnt tee off till 45 min late. They didnt even adjust my rate to the after 1pm rate even though i started at 1:30pm. The pro-shop inventory is laughable and the marshall SMELLED SO BAD when he drove by 5x.

for the size of the greens and fairways, Candlewood Country club is close but that course is in good shape. This one is HORRIBLE.

I liked the course. please remember this is a 30 dollar course. im from las vegas and play here whenever im in so cal. the course has narrow fairways so you have to play smart or you lost your ball in the hillsides which bunker it seems like most fairways. Its a fun course with many different layouts for the holes. alot of risk and reward type holes. if you dont have course management and just want to bomb the driver and cant get it in the fairway your in for a long day.

Customer Service

one of the best ive ever been too. friendly, courteous and helpful. Old course charm and you cant beat the artwork driving in the drains.none

Shoot in the 80s

COURSE: Shorecliffs is nicely set near the coast of San Clemente running through narrow valleys adjacent to the many humble homes that spot the hills. However, I'd rather stand out in front of the starters window and burn my $50+ U.S. dollars than hand it to the starter for 4-5 hours of frustration and questions like "This gets better, right?" Don't get me wrong, this course can be challenging, and by challenging I mean driving to a fairway that's got less grass than a head shop. Or putting on greens that have the stimp reading of a shag carpet. The one positive that can be drawn is the mandatory cart rule. It speeds up play, and if your lucky you can finish in under 5 hours. As for the 90 degree rule to preserve the fairways that many golf courses enforce, Shorecliffs has its own preservation rules, they allow golfers to relieve themselves on the course provided it somewhere near the center of the fairway to encourage growth.
MAINTENANCE: Apparently there is no Head Groundskeeper at Shorecliffs Golf Course or he is smoking some Carl Spackler special because this course has the color pattern of camoflouge, shades of green intertwined with lots of brown.
GREENS: Not as bad as I like to make it sound but getting there IS part of the game isn't it?
TEES: An abomination.

Customer Service

The starters don't reflect the poorly kept course.

The course needs a lot of work, Major work was being done on the course and the grass fairway needed watering. Didn't really care for the course layout as you had to drive the storm drains to get from some of the Tee's. The greens were in excellent condition though.
