Excellent track; just taken over by the Soboba Indian tribe and opened the first of 2006 (casino just down the road). Originally done by Desmond Muirhead in 1967 ( he also did the tournament course at Mission Hills in 1970, later doing Muirfield Village with Jack Nicklaus in 1974), the course was given a makeover by Cary Bickler (Encinitas Ranch, the Auld Course) adding length and aesthetics, such as flash bunkers. The course is definitely "old style" with big trees and fairly small greens; the added length will test any golfer. Would put this course on any player's must play list in SoCal.

Very interesting course layout. Tees, fairways and greens in very nice condition.

The practice tee is a bit weak; not much choice in teeing ground, so it can get a bit rough. However, they do use greens as range targets instead of signs with big numbers on them.

A very pretty oasis in the middle of what otherwise would be flat desert land, but with a nice view of Mt. San Jacinto and North Mountain, framing the course. Very interesting layout. For example, there are three par fives on the back nine--back to back to back. One of them zig-zags around a lake--long hitters will cut across from one long leg of the "Z" to the other. I played this course for the first time solo--not the recommended way to do it because there are some surprises including number 18, which is a 90-degree dogleg left around a lake that is completely unseen from the tee. Fairway width is generally generous, but on some holes a badly errant drive cannot even be looked for, much less found. It has two short par 3s (8 iron or 9 iron, or even wedge), but each is enhanced by potential water trouble. This course can get hot on a summer day, so bring your sun block and preferably a wide-brimmed hat. I look forward to playing this course again.
