Nice muni course. Lots of dog-legged holes to challenge you. Greens are only average...not in the best shape, and not too hard to read. I don't like the new holes they added, the original holes around the water were much better...now you have to climb to a hilltop to play two so-so holes, and then come down to play the rest of the course. The flow and layout of these holes is terrible. Trees along the fairways of the back nine give it a change in scenery.

Customer Service

Nice Proshop. Alittle pricy restaurant, but a nice building.

This course is an aberration for the area, in that it is actually a well designed, fun and reasonably priced course that is in the heart of the valley. The maintenance is even pretty good, considering the play it gets. Pay attention to the wind, not the yardages on the card. When it blows with you, the par fives are reachable in two pretty easily. When it is against you, even the shortish par fours are challenging. They added two new holes on the front that are excellent. One is into the wind and requires a nuked driver just to get a peek around the dogleg. The other is 340 yd par four with the wind that is easily driveable. Come here before you go to San Jose muni.

Maintenance of the course was pretty good considering its a muni and the amount of play it gets. Almost all the holes that isn't a par 3 is a dogleg left or right so club selection and ball placement is more beneficial than distance. Tough course if you've never played there before and don't know where to place the ball. The greens are slow except for the the two new holes up in the hill.

Santa Clara is a pretty good value if you play at the right time. It can be completely over crowded and slow, but during the week, it's fun and not too badly priced. It's the most fun of the south bay muni courses, aside from shoreline.

Customer Service

The customer service is pretty good for what it's up against (big, constant crowds of complaining hackers like me).

The range is big, but with mats. The putting green is good, the chipping green isn't and the snack bar is slow and overpriced.
