Once again, I am treated to a round of golf by Jeff Lee. This was my first visit to this course and this is my take:

This course is actually a little gem within this community of Valley Springs. Some would expect that with a small town, comes small-scaled-down excuse of a golf course. (if any for that matter)

This is not the case with La Contenta.

I found this course to contain a variety of situations to meet anyone's challenge for a round of golf.

With a handfull of unique layouts testing your judgement calls and skills, you will soon find yourself focusing on the moment in the visually semi-mindbending scenarios.

Typical situation off the teebox: Your facing an uphill fairway, and the top of the crest is about 230yds (White Tees). If you are short, your going to have an awful blind 2nd, uphill lie...so, your simply going to need to bring your B+ drive to this party.

Yes, target golf would be a part of this layout at LaContenta and overall this is not a difficult course. But, what I'm trying to say is that for $31 w/cart + GPS (fairly decent one in fact w/screened scorecard) this is not a bad place to come to for your golfing enjoyment.

Your going to lose a couple of golf balls...

Customer Service

Top notched. The dining facility looks over the 1st & 18th hole. I am eating brunch before the round begins, and I am saying to myself...wow...nice. Someone took the effort to care.

This course is located in the California Gold Country. About 30 miles east of Stockton. Course is mostly flat with some water. The flat part of the course is mostly open. HOWEVER, there are about six holes that are very steep and hilly, target golf. As steep as any golf course I have encountered. A few of holes are gimmicky. A few blind pins. Conditions are very good, which is the course's strong point. The course is walkable, if you don't mind being a billy goat on the hilly holes. It's one of those courses you need to play a few times to get a good feel for. Price is about $50 with cart. Look for discounts. The 10th Green Inn is a decent place to stay for the evening. Valley Springs does not have a lot to offer in the way of amenities. But the golf course is a lot of fun.

Customer Service

Very good.
