West course, the one I played, has some lovely oaks lining most fairways. Very pretty. I saw no alligators, for which I'm quite grateful. That's all I'd have needed.

Fairways and greens.

This course was in the worst condition of any course I've ever played, and I've played a fair number of courses. The fairways were either shaggy beyond belief or absolutely bare, where they weren't soggy. The greens were Stimp -10. Negative stimp means that the ball goes down the inclined plane of the stimpmeter, says, "I ain't goin' onto that crud," and goes back up the incline. Uneven, sand/dirt patches, unkempt, sparse grass or too much too long. Frightful.

high price for such a mediocre public course.

This course is good not all. For the amount they are charging nowadays, they should definitely take better care of the course. No one cares about mulch gardens near the tee boxes.. how about using those sprinklers once in a while. I'd rather play at LSU's cow pasture course than at City Park.

Wide open fairways, short rough.

Courses are generally in rough condition due to continuous play.

This review covers the West (Championship) and East courses at City Park.(These courses are very similar with identical strengths/weaknesses). Both courses have generous fairways and little rough to speed up play. The greens are generally small and slow. Sand bunkers are not too penalizing. Water comes into play often. These courses get a lot of play and generally not enough care, but for the money they are a bargain. New management is slowly making improvements. Great courses for walkers and golfers who spray their drives. Hard to lose a ball unless it goes into the drink. Playable year-round except during overseeding in November, when greens become too sandy for putting.

I really don't know if it has any strengths. The restaurant is cheaper then the other public course. Green fee is under $11 if you walk.

Some of the people who work there. One time I call and they told me they were booked. I went anyway and there was hardly any body there. The starter was wondering why no one was playing that day.

It is one of the two public courses here in Lafayette. The back tees play about the same length as the middle tees at the other public course. It does not have a driving range. The back nine is the hardest part of the course. It has three par 5’s and three par 3’s. Holes 11,12 & 13 run along a major road in town. So, if you are a big slicer, you can make it over the net and watch it bounce down the road. The greens and fairway stay in good shape, it all depends on the time of year. There is very little elevation to the greens or fairways. If you are a single player and don’t have a tee time, sometimes it is hard to get on. I think they look down on us singles. Also if you are big off the tee box, this course will seem short to you.

Cheap as Hell

They maintain the course with the three dollars you pay them!

This course is not exactly a RTJ or Palmer course. In fact, it may be the worst groomed course I've ever played on. The 9 short par 3 and 4 holes are kind of fun, and they actually have some elevation changes in them, which for South Louisiana is unheard of! They're very short. You can almost drive th green on every hole. (Or at least get to within 20-30 yards). However, where the course wins in fun layout, it looses horribly in management. The greens are horrible, lumpy, uneven and inconsistent. The fairways are almost alway cut too long, completely water-logged or so dry that sparks fly if you try to hit an iron of the ground. Nevertheless, the course might be the cheapest in the whole country: Twilight fee: $3 I guess it's all about what you're looking for.
