This WAS our 2nd favorite golf course in Colorado. I emphasize the word WAS because they've recently had water rights issues and the greens are burned to a crisp. They are watering again but it's going to take some time to get them back - if they don't just have to tear them out and start from scratch. I've been playing golf for 42 years and have never played greens in such terrible condition. If this course is in your travel plans, I suggest calling ahead to ask about their current conditions.

I have been traveling to this area to play golf for several years and have always had a wonderful golfing experience. Fairway and green conditions exceed what I can afford at home so value in that respect is pretty good. The staff has always been courteous and friendly throughout the various ownership changes. The course highlights can only be appreciated from the back tees. One of the best feelings you'll ever get is watching your tee shot sail over the trees from the elevated #1 tee to the lush fairway below. Or what about hole number 12 from the back? It doesn't get much more challenging than that. The course has all the required elements for a challenging, but fair test of your game from tee boxes for all levels. And maybe it's just me, but what could be better than an enjoyable round of golf without a crowd of people?! Please, sir, keep your golf course parking lots in Dallas full, it'll make my vacation even more enjoyable.

Great views, good golf course.
Over-priced. Locals can't afford it and so the parking lot is empty during the week. Great for rich folks.
But that tells me management doesn't care about anything but making money.

The previous reviewer obviously had a bad experience at Grandote and the primary reason I write this is to counter his review. I consider this course in a small town in southern Colorado a hidden gem. Grandote is an excellent golf course for all levels of player. I have played it 8-10 times over the past 10 years. The course condition is generally excellent, particularly for a course in a high elevation area. The layout by Weiskopf-Morrish is superb. The front nine routing uses a mountain stream for location of 3-4 holes. A drivable and devilish par 4 (#4), one of the best short par 4s I've played, is followed by a brutish 455 yard par 4 #5. The back 9 starts with a Redan par 3 and uses hilly terrain for two holes then moves back toward the stream bottom for two difficult par 4s (#15 and 16) and then another long par 4 #17 that is the bookend of #5. The par 5 #18 is a relatively weak finishing hole but overall the golfing experience is challenging but fair. The wind that runs through the valley can play havoc. Balls are often lost in the native rough, but the course is generally open and playable. Greens have usually been in good shape. Not much contour to them but some "mountain break" requires local knowledge. The views of the Spanish Peaks are superb. I have found the service to be professional and friendly. Decent practice facilities
