Shoots in the 90s

South Suburban is a muni in the tradition of the sixties/seventies muni. It's not the "semi-private" style. You'll meet all types here... jeans and t-shirts, kids, women in groups who wander aimlessly on the par-3, good golfers and a lot of your neighbors. You will not find many business meeting rounds, snobs or slow players.

The course is a challenge. Play the blues and make it tough if you're male. Good women should play the whites.

The greens are VERY tough. Even approaches below the hole will yield a tough two-putt quite frequently. The rough can be long. The fairways are usually in great shape, especially considering the amount of play. The reason for this is probably the percentage of walkers. This is a pretty nice walking course with the exception of a couple of really tough uphill sections.

It's a deal if you're a South Suburban "member" (read "taxpayer"). If you're not, it's not a great value. I've known people to complain about the out-of-district value.

All in all, SS is a player's course. There are good challenges, risk-reward shots, nice views of the mountains and a great practice green/range/lessons area. A diamond in the rough.

Customer Service

Good. Varies a lot, but overall, good.

Model Reviewed: South Suburban Golf Course

One of the best tests of your complete game from a public course in Colorado. Exceptional Value. Men should play from the blues, the differential from the whites on most holes is minimal.

The claim to fame of this course is that the greens are always recognized as among the top three hardest in the state. For all the play it receives the condition of the tees, fairways and greens is exceptional.

The pace of play is generally fine and most of those playing are both curteous and avid golfers who understand the need to keep pace. In the torrid heat we have experienced over the last few summers, the maintenance crew has done a commendable job of keeping the farways and greens in excellent condition.

If you are looking for value for your golf dollar and enjoy public courses that will test every club in your bag, you will love this track.
