This course is a real treat to play. Located near the Winter Park Ski Resort in Colorado, it is obviously closed during the winter, but opens for the summer mid-May.

I say a "treat" because it's not often you get to play such a great course at an elevation of 8,600 feet! There's no humidity, the ball flies a lot further, and the actual golfing experience is incredibly rewarding.

Pole Creek encompasses three sets of 9 holes which can be played in any combination. The "Meadow" and "Ranch" nine's are the original 18 holes that won Golf Digest's "Best New Public Course in North America" award in 1985. Pole Creek cuts right through the middle of the course, and because of this, water can come into play on 10 of the 18 holes, either by having to cross the river (or avoid going left or right into it), or carrying one of the 4 lakes that have been formed.

Course condition is great from tee to green, and the views of the Continental Divide are magical – especially with the peaks still covered in snow. For the guys, if you’re a single-handicap golfer, then play from the blue tees for the best experience. The white tees still come in between 6,413 and 6,604 yards, so there’s still plenty of length there to challenge your game.

All in all, this is a highly recommended course, and will make you want to come back and play it again many times over.

Customer Service

The staff here are just about as friendly as you'll meet anywhere. They're locals, and are passionate about what they do and proud of the course they work at. From the pro-shop, to the grounds crew, restaurant staff and cart-girls, everyone is just happy to be here.

Played a number of Colorado Mountain Golf Courses, in Silverthorne, Vail, Glenwood Springs and elsewhere, and Pole Creek is unique. Probably one of the highest at 8600 feet, so your ball does fly further (into the trees).

WOW! It's worth the $50 just to walk this course, it's cut out of an aspen forest and is absolutely gorgeous. Don't think about golfing it until you have camera in hand, aside from the scenery, A great variety in holes. Every hole offers something different, one in particular over water but you can be safe and go on the fairway around, however I donated 2 balls to the water.. Par 3 is the most protected Green I've ever seen, water, nature and sand all around it, Greens were in OK shape some not soo great. I highly recommend just to see the georgous views! Bring lots of balls as forest is everywhere and tall grass, very difficult if possible to find balls. An excellent challenge, and I can't say it enough, pure beauty!

Customer Service

Very friendly, went in without a tee time, and she got me out instantly, A+, although the greens weren't the best condition, I still give it a 5 just for the beauty of this course.

Model Reviewed: Pole Creek

Pole Creek is considered the best public course in Colorado. I have played it twice in two different years. This course is one of the most beautiful tracks I ever saw. Magnificent views of the Rocky Mountains. Large elevations that give spectacular views of the course from the tee boxes. The course is 7100 yards, but the ball moves big time because of the elevation and thin air so its very fair in terms of reaching greens. The course was carved out of an aspen forest.
Highly recommended. Bring a camera.

Played this course June 2002. This may be the best course I've ever played. In beautiful shape. The greens were actually that color. The fairways, while mostly lined with trees, were still playable. Smartly laid out course. While the ball goes at least a club farther, players must lay up on many of the par 4s. I played more 5 irons off the tee on this course in two days than I have the rest of the year combined. To cap the wonderful experience, we teed off at 2:30 on the longest day of the year, for a cost of $57.50 (including cart). In spite of two rain delays (totalling at least an hour) we managed to squeeze in 21 holes.
