Model Reviewed: Palm Beach Gardens Municipal GC

The Palm Beach Gardens GC is located on outer (west) Northlake Boulevard in Palm Beach Gardens. A shorter tract carved out of marsh and swamp. The course is absolutely perfect for the average golfer, and for the advanced golfer seeking to sharpen their iron game. I will tell you that a lot of local players do not like this course because of the narrow fairways. Well, after four hurricanes, that has changed in that many of the fairways have become wider because of fallen trees. But, back to the point, this is not a "bombers" course with much recovery potential, so leave your driver at home. Almost any green can be reached with a 3 or 5 wood and mid to short iron. The greens are in OK to good condition, not because of poor maintainence, but because of lazy players who just will not repair their ball marks. The layout has some imagination and will allow you to see some real Florida wildlife. GPS on the golf carts gives you accurate distances. Soft greens will hold virtually everthing. Very enjoyable and well worth a visit.

The bad news is that the course is in a low elevation relative to the water table (marshland). So, when it's wet, it stays that way for a few days. Along those lines, there are mosquito's (big ones) in the summer that can halt you play in the late afternoon when they become active. Bring a repellant, and you will be OK.

I personally recommend you play this course using just your long irons (or hybrid/fairway woods) off the blue tees. It will force you to use a complete game. Also, the next time you play a course with wider fairways, your will think that you are playing in a cow pasture by comparison.

Pro shop, snack bar, and a driving range that sets up over a pond so watch for your splash! The "floater" balls a somewhat distance restricted, so do get too caught up in why your 8-iron is only going 130 yds.

I played this course on vacation in June, 2000. Loved this course!! The people were so friendly, the course is well maintained, and being a reserve, there were native wildlife and birds everywhere. One tee had to be shared with a huge heron (that did not appear to be impressed with my swing!). I would think that this course would be taxing to walk, but not impossible. The greens were easy to hit onto and are fairly good sized. They putted very nicely also. The tees were very nicely maintained and easy to tee up and hit from. This course has lots of eye appeal and is very laid back in its play.

Customer Service

These people were the nicest that were encountered in Florida!
