It was terrible experience. My cart was run out of battery and I and my partner pushed it for 3 holes. Not just mine was out but many have been seen pushed by another cart. The course looked not maintained for a long time and the ground is too hard to hit a ball. Too few staff were working on and they are far from friednly. Never go again. Do not go there unless you need exercises. NEVER.

really.. whoever says this is in the "ghetto" obviousl has never ever been to the ghetto... y'all seem a little stuck up.. just saying.. i mean i have a ton of money.. but i still golf here and find it good, for the price, the only thing i dont like is the hole locations, i feel the holes are to close to eachother and it is hard to manage around the course if its your first time.. im sorry, no disrespect adn i usually dont review, but the mintue i saw the "ghetto" comment i had to jump in.. hillarious

If the rate is $20 (during the week), then go ahead and play. Otherwise I would not pay a dime more for this course. They renovated the greens last year; therefore the greens are "decent." However, the rest of this course is absolutely terrible. The fairways are hard, and not maintained at all. The tee boxes are okay, however hardly level. The bunkers are not true bunkers (some are hard sand, some are soft sand). If you have heard of "Candler Park," then imagine that type of maintenance on the golf course (i.e terrible)

Customer Service

Very friendly staff. Not in the greatest of areas, but I didn't feel like it was in the "ghetto" as others describe it to be

I found ATH GC when I was looking online for a place to play during a week-long work trip in ATL. One review I found said "it's in the ghetto, so don't forget your gun." Driving to the course I could kinda understand; it's not the best part of town. But honestly, I never felt anything less than safe (and yes, I'm as white as they come).

ATH GC is a hidden gem. Period. Quality of the turf and greens definitely exceeded that of your standard muni. All par 5's are reachable in 2. A few par 4's are drivable, but that better be a good drive. Otherwise, your ball's probably going into the trees or one of numerous bunkers or waste areas found throughout the course (there also a couple small water hazards). The greens are moderately contoured and respectably fast (probably around a 10 on the stimp when I played). The course also has a lot of topography; most fairways are sloped one way or another and the greens are rarely at eye level. This is definitely a thinking man's course; you're not just going to grip-it-and-rip-it on every hole. That was a big positive for me.

Don't judge a book by it's cover. I HATE paying $50 for golf, so value is key. ATH GC provides value bar none. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

This review is from March '07
I have recently begun to play this course often. The main reason is that as a student i can walk for $14.50, but also, I really enjoy the course.

The course itself is not very long, and features a number of doglegs and "par 5" holes which are easily reachable with good drive and an iron shot no longer than a 6. The most memorable holes are 9 and 17, two holes in which you must hit your tee shot over a large valley with a creek at the bottom (which i believe are the civil war trenches. 9 is a 210-220 yard par three, and 17 is a 260-270 yard par 4, which is easily drivable without an unfavorable wind. These holes really are an experience.

While there is no water hazard on this course there are several creeks one must avoid on various holes, including 1, 9, 11, 12 and 17. OB off the tee is a real threat on many holes as well, (but not so much on others)

My personal least favorite hole is 14, a 160 yard slightly uphill par three. The green lies on top of a domed hill, and if you miss left or right you will roll 100 yards down the hill onto the fairway of an ajacent hole... no fun. Leave it short if anything and chip on, or pray you hit a sandtrap.

As for conditions, they are not overly impressive. Right now the grass is very wintery and brown, and a good lie is not guarnteed in the fairway. There is little to no rough, and some tee boxes are nothing more than packed dirt. HOWEVER, the staff has begun to gear up the course for summer play. All the greens are new and beautiful. Many tee boxes are new, I believe the sand traps have recently been filled with new sand. All in all, it is shaping up, and is very playable and enjoyable conditions wise.

And don't worry about "the ghetto", you just have to drive through it, and once you are on the course everyone is SUPER friendly if you are. There are no guns (browns mill has an armed guard... pretty cool) or loud rap music.

Customer Service

The people in the pro shop are friendly and very pleasant. The locals who seem to frequent this course often will ask "how ya hittin' it?" Everyone has always been very friendly to me.

Tiger1 said: You are all crazy. This course is located in the ghetto, so bring your gun for protection. If you give this course anything over a 2 rating, then it's likely you've never played a real golf course. For the price, I think the course is a good value, but don't expect great thengs. I was at this course in February of 2004. I believe Tiger1 comments were influenced because the area appears to be predominately black. Although I may not be black, I felt very comfortable on the course and in the area. If it is the ghetto, it is nice and clean. Most golfers play during daylight hours anyway. Therefore, if you are looking to hit a little white rock with 120 dimples you will be fine although you might find it to be addicting. :-) I found the course itself to play rather easy. There really were no hazards other than your typical sandtraps. I don't remember any water. The course has many hills. Sometime you could not tell if someone was ahead of you in a gulley. The ninth hole is a par three I believe and a bit misleading. It can easily be redefined as a par 4. I don't remenber the yardage however you tee across a valley onto the green which sits atop a plateau. If you dont hit the green then you will probably roll down to the bottom of the valley. Unless you pitch/chip it back on the green which appears to be approx. 50ft elevation, you will continue to roll to the bottom. this hole gave me some trouble. There is an adjacent hole (I believe #17) which is simular to #9 however it is a par 4 and the yardage is a little further. I will most certainly play this course again when I am in hte area

Customer Service

Very pleasant. When they reconized that I was from out of town they gave me their weekday rate as oppose to weekend.

This is a relatively short course, but very nice. The first hole green was not in great shape, and had me worried about what I was getting into, but nearly all the other greens were in good condition. The course is nicely maintained. The course has some very interesting hole configurations, and the par threes will test your accuracy. They are building a couple of small restroom buildings out on the course, which will undoubtedly improve players' comfort and add to the enjoymen of the round. The clubhouse is nice, also. Last, there are some Confederate entrenchments from the Civil War that can be seen along the course. As a history buff, I enjoyed seeing this, although most golfers probably don't care. If there is any weakness, it's that they need to invest in some new golf cars.

Customer Service

I've had no problem with it.

I used to play this course a lot a couple of years ago and have played recently. The experience was somewhat disappointing because of the obvious lack of care to the greens. The layout is good, but the condition could be better.

I have played this course twice now, and must say that it scores 2nd of the four municipals in Atlanta. The layout is nice, and the new proshop is a step above the rest, but overall, the course does not compare to Browns Mill. Courteous Staff. Fairways are in good shape. But many of the Bent-Grass greens are patchy. Right now, they are offering week-day rounds for AGPA members for $15. And both times I played it has been a little over 4 hours.

I have played this course several times. As recently as 3/9/03. Back 9 had just been airated and sanded but the course was in very good overall shape. Double wide trailer is now brand new stone club house. Original burned down two years ago. Drains great after rain. The best of the four American Golf Courses.

Customer Service

Pleasent, but not go out of the way for you class.
