Shoots in the 90s

I have read lots of good reviews of this course, but sadly, those days are LONG gone. I played on 8/10/2010 and the bentgrass greens are absolutely horrible. The fairways were in decent shape, but most of the bunkers were caked with rock hard dirt, and there were grass clippings all throughout the rough. It appears that the groundskeeping crew has given up on the course for this season. The greens (unless totally rebuilt) may never come back. I only paid $22, but even that may have been too much.

Customer Service

The bright spot of my round was the staff. The young women in the clubhouse were honest and apologetic about the conditions, and the starter was equally kind and generous with the apologies.

Cherokee Run and I have a love hate relationship. I love to play there but my scorecard would indicate that I hate it. The course is great. It would challange even the most skilled golfer. Shooting in the 90's at this course is a feat all in itself. For some odd reason my pride will take another hit as I will be playing there next week. I would avoid playing during drought times. It's like hitting in the parking lot.

Model Reviewed: Cherokee Run

It's a monster. All around, this is the toughest course I've played anywhere. Especially when the greens are running quick, which is most of the time. It will take you about three rounds to figure this place out. There are ALOT of places where you simply cannot place the ball and expect to par. It's become a personal challenge of mine, and now I'm occasionally beginning to score well there. Still on any given day, I can shoot from low 80s to 100 on this track. You have to THINK your way around this course. The driver is out of your hand on several holes from the blues, and even more from the whites. But there are still several risk/reward holes where you have the chance to rip it. But you will be punshed severely if you miss. The line between par and triple bogey is frighteningly small on some holes. They just were re-rated, and now the slope is more appropriate at 128 white and 139 blue, but still too low, imo. This is a BEAUTIFUL course. You are very much alone with nature on the Arnold Palmer design. No houses anywhere. The only weakness is the drainage, especially in the bunkers, because of the granite substrate from nearby Stone Mountain. Otherwise, this would be a $100 course.

Customer Service

Friendly folks with no attitude. You can get GREAT deals there on summer afternoons if you can bear the heat. Not hard to get a tee time, either. The course is tough, so it's amazing how empty it is sometimes. You won't see many hackers out there. Food service is a little below par, as clubhouse bar often closes early.

Shoots in the 90s

One of the more difficult courses in Atlanta that is open to the public. It is very tough and has a variety of holes. The greens are well maintained and quick. You'll want to play this course more than once, as the first time it will eat you up.

Shoot in the 90s

Cherokee Run is an outstanding coursde. Maintenance is excellent and the condition of the course this June was virtually perfect. Don't miss the chance to play this course. If you're looking for lessons, David Oberding (Ritson-Sole school) is a fantastic teacher. Enjoy!

Shoot in the 80s

By far the best course I've played since moving to Atlanta. This course was in really good shape, with perfectly groomed fairways and greens. The bunkers were in good shape too, which is a surprise for the Atlanta area courses that I've played. The grass on the tee boxes were a bit long, but we must have played late after a cutting. The service was excellent and the price was reasonable.
