They had to shorten the back nine because of a new convention center being built right on the old number 14 green.

I agree with Mr. Cheney, this is a great course for the weekend warrior, but it''s also a great place to test your course mangement skills. It''s not a long course but the trees overhang the fairways in several spots making the ideal landing areas narrower than you think. Sometimes the driver can be too long on this course, I recommend you break out the 3 wood or long iron off the tees and test your iron game. The fairways are in good shape and the smallish greens tend to be on the fast side. The winds are always blowing so a good punch shot will help. There are a couple good risk/reward holes on the course. This is a great course for golfer of all levels.

Kalakaua is the perfect course for the avrage weekend golfer. Tees, fairways, and greens are well maintained. The course offers views of Mt. Kaala and the pineapple fields. The bunkers are on the hard side, but still very playable. The course has an abundance of trees but no water hazards the rough is usually short and the greens are usually fast.
