Shoots in the 80s

Fast greens with plenty of contour are what most golfers will remember after their round. The course traverses the rolling countryside with a pleasant mixture of scenery: open meadows dotted with mature trees, wooded hollows, and a broad ravine cut by a stream. It is a shame that artificial mounds around most greens and fairways prevent the course from blending into the natural beauty as well as it could. (To be fair, the mounding is no more excessive than on most courses, it just looks even more obtrusive in these surroundings.) There is a wide range of architectural merit: some holes feature interesting strategy like tee shots over diagonal hazards to angled fairways, bunkers guarding the direct line, and well-placed "chipping areas," while other holes offer dull, straightaway fairways with hazards in single file off to the sides. The one-shot holes do not add much variety, as they all tend to play within a club or two of each other. Turf condition is usually very good, and the bunkers are greatly improved following much-needed renovation. Several strenuous ascents make it a tougher-than-average walk. It is a decent value, especially when taking advantage of their specials.
