I played at Madisonville Country Club on Thursday May 24, 07 after introducing myself to friendly owner and pro Jeff on Wednesday and asking about playing Thursday. He said I could swim Thursday in their wonderful pool with diving board but he was not there Thursday and the different man working in the pro shop said the pool was closed and would not open until after Memorial Day so swimming after golf was out by him.
The golf club is easy to find on Highway 41 but beware when turning into it and keep sharply to the right since the false driveway is actually a neighborhood street and fast, oncoming cars are obscurred by a hill. You then make a right into the real club parking lot driveway. There should be a beware sign of some sort on the street.
The pro shop is fully stocked and aftermath pictures of the November 2005 daytime tornado, which destroyed many nearby homes, show damage that occurred to mostly the front nine. Plenty of topped out trees on the course make you glad you weren't standing around that day. I looked in the back and saw a club repair room...hmm I wonder if they do whipping on old woods?
My round was $29 with a cart and $5 for a bag of driving range balls. The driving range is nice and the two practice greens are nearby. The course, as is beautiful yards in the Madisonville area where everyone is always mowing, is well maintained with great tee boxes, rolling fairways and lush, fast greens. The sloping greens hold your shot well but don't go past the hole for an always downhill put that will run your score through the roof. The fairways are gorgeous and closely mowed over that very fertile Kentucky soil. I did not hit into any bunkers but they are there. There are some ponds of water and several ditches and high grass fields to capture errant shots. I played alone at lunch time and no one was in front or behind which allowed me to play a little two-ball. Play is more crowded in the morning and after 4 p.m. when I noted new foursomes playing. This was a great break from South Carolina golf where you are always rushing to keep foursomes behind you happy. The fast gas carts are new but the cart paths could be repaved to provide a smoother ride. You will enjoy Madisonville Country Club golf.

Customer Service

I wanted a hotdog after the front nine but they weren't available so I could only get crackers. There were no beer cart girls.
